not sure how far north you are going in bruce county.... but Tobermory is a really nice little harbour town, alot of cool parks around there.... and if you have the $$ and the chance taking the ss chi-cheemaun ferry to manitoulin island is definitely worth it... nice car ferry ride to the island. Plus there are the flowerpot island tours which are pretty cool.. also if your venturing up the shore line of Lake Huron, check out Goderich, Kincardine and Southampton, all really nice little towns.

Thanks for the input Bro. I was actually looking at the PICs from the site and they are very impressive. I'm really excited now!

Hey !
I went up to the Bruce Peninsula on May Long weekend! The scenery is really kick ass and it's really awesome for hiking. When i went it was super cold, but right now it's perfect.
SPECIFICALLY.
I went up to Toberymory. I camped at Cyprus Lake Peninsula and visited Bruce National Park, Dyers Bay (and Lighthouse), Five Fathom National Park.
There are honestly so many places to go if you like scenery and a good walk/climb.
- Grotto
- Overhanging Point
- Manatoulin Island
- Stormhaven Point/Cave Point or something
Just to name a few.
Water is excellent and clear.
PM me if you have any specific questions about Tobermory.

That's Awesome info Bro. I'm overwhelmed with the places to go and visit.
I'm interested on Camping next long weekend (Civic Holiday). I will check Cyprus Lake as per your post above. Do you remember the pricing for the camp ground? Also, do they have electricity and shower/bathroom?
My collegues are telling to check Southamptons for camping.

not too sure about southamptons?
but cyprus lake is pretty cheap for a campground per night.
Let's see
I paid 158 for three camp sites for two nights.
So in essence, that works out to about 26 bucks a night.
there is NO electricity. this is PURE camping lol.
but there are flush toilets and lots of water stations to get water. but yeah this will be tent and campfire styles and bring ur own food/grill (unless u go to town)
It's the best place to camp because you're right in the middle of bruce national park and only about 10 minutes drive away from the town of tobermory which has some decent lil places to eat and where five fathom is which is where u can go cayaking around the islands and snorkling too potentially.

We normally cook our own food in Campings. The only thing I worry about is the electricity. My friends are going to bring their kids (6-8 yrs old). Therefore, it's essential for them.
I've always wanted to do snorkeling. Hopefully it will be good one http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/happy/happy0144.gif

ah! i hear you.... hmnnn
ack.. hmnn...can't help you there on electricity. if you have enough "lamps" it should be okay... but there are bears..... haha
there are some "motor" park campgrounds with electricity i think. i forget the names. and then there are motels in town too.
hope it works out well for you. let me know how it goes. it was way too cold for me to go snorkeling and too cold to go kayaking.
i dipped my head into the grotto and had a sip of the water. lol make sure you try it. it's really refreshing! =)
have fun and remember, only you can stop forest fires.

I'm going there camping this long weekend. Will be looking out for a 3.
Me and my friends will be camping at Tobermory Village Camp then we'll be going around the place.
Having grown up in Kincardine this thread makes me laugh abit...
"real camping" does not involve flushing toilets or running water lol...
Camping is throwing a stove sleeping bag, tent, and some food into a backback or canoe and going off into the middle of nowhere :)

lol you know what. you're right. but for the everyday person this is as "normal" camping as it gets.
what you speak of feels like portaging lol. and exploring. we're talking about "resort" camping lol
but yeah i guess taking a dump in the forest and wiping with leaves is more hardcore... but most ppl wouldn't buy it =)

hey no problem.... you really can't go wrong up there, even the drive depending on the route is really really nice..... as for camping goes in southampton.... not sure there is a whole lot there... had an ex gf from there... really really small town... like downtown is like 1/2 block at max lmao..... Tobermory is a little bigger... but really nice... I completely forgot about the five fathoms national park.. (really cool) especially with the glass bottom boat tours... or the boat tour to the flowerpot islands.. really nice part of lake huron/georgian bay. Not sure if and when they are doing it... but quite a while ago did a family trip following the tall ships up the ports of Lake Huron.... might want to check into that... really cool to watch the old school sailing ships.... and even get to go on them when they are docked. Overall it's a really cool area... lot of really nice scenery ENJOY!!! and take in as much of that fresh air as is possible... oh and definitely go swimming in lake huron.. the beaches there are killer!

I ended up at Sandbanks this long weekend. Hopefully I can book some campgrounds or motels this Civic Holiday.

It was a fun Drive. I didn't see any cops in that area. Maximum speed limit in those highways "70". But majority of the vehicles are running over 100.

Didn't see any "BlackFlies", but it became really windy in the afternoon. The Tents & Umbrellas flying all over the place.
I will definitely include Sandbanks in my Summer Road Trip next year.

A nice side trip to Sandbanks is to go towards Picton and (1) go to Lake on the Mountain (yes, reading the interpretive signs is actually worth it to learn about it!) (info here (http://www.pec.on.ca/other/lotm.html) and here (http://www.ontarioparks.com/English/lakem.html)); (2) have a great lunch at Lake on the Mountain Resort (http://www.lakeonthemountain.com/); and (3) take the Glenora Ferry (http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/ferry/index.html#Glenora) across the Bay towards Kingston -- the ferry is free because it is actually a "highway". The drive along the road from the ferry into Kingston is quite scenic if you have the time (even if just up to, say, Bath) -- water on your right for quite a ways, and lots of farms (many with roadside produce stands this time of year).
Note: the Glenora ferry gets busy in the summer (mostly because of Sandbanks), so sometimes you have to wait a couple runs before you get on; but there is a nice waiting area and the view is great if you like water and nature.

You certainly know a lot in this area. Are you a frequent visitor or have relatives by any chance?
My colleague lives in Trenton and always in his boat relaxing with a few beers.http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/happy/happy0180.gif

Anyway, was your campsite very close to the beach? You have a pic of the campsite? We're planning on going there next year.

We didn't do camping, just picnic. We drove really early in the morning then left just before closing (10pm).
"Campsite Reservations can be made by calling the park directly at (613) 393-3319."
Camping
Sandbanks features 549 campsites in five campgrounds. There are 140 campsites with electrical service, and each campsite has a picnic table and fireplace grill. Drinking water taps are close to all sites. Washrooms with showers are scattered throughout the campgrounds.
Group Camping
There are two group sites. One site accommodates up to 30 people and has outhouses, a fire grill and pit, water tap, 6 picnic tables and overflow parking. The site is in close proximity to a sandy beach on East Lake. The second site can accommodate up to 50 people and has outhouses, a water tap, 11 picnic tables and a fire grill and pit. The site is right near the water, making for beautiful scenery.
