Just got back from seeing the new Transformers movie, and let me tell you, it is the greatest movie ever made. No word of a lie.

The only downfall was there was no Mazda3 transformer, yet. Maybe in the sequel. Secondly, all the Transformers where GM's, but it did have the new Camaro. Very Nice!

Overall, two thumbs way the **** up!!!!!!!!!

dying to see transformers.... Grew up in the 80's playing with them and were by far my favourite toys.... in fact still have most of them!! As for there not being a Mazda 3 autobot.... Gm bought out the contract for the rights to the movie.... so that they could use their new lineup of vehicles for the characters.... some of it is good some of it is bad for us old school fans I have to say this is quite the disappointment especially since they have changed the vehicles.

1) Jazz - was a porsche not a pontiac solstice
2) Bumblebee - was a vw bug (being a little guy) not a camaro
3) Ironhide - was a red van (ambulance style) not a pick heavy duty truck

but oh well...... what can you do right??

Every movie for the last 2 decades has been total product placement, it is expected from the big budget movies. How else do you think they can pay to make these blockbuster movies, it 2 plus hours of ad space.

Just saw the movie and I am kinda speechless... I havent walked out of a movie so pumped up before in my life, and I wanted to go see Fantastic 4 cause Jessica Alba is hot, but Megan fox makes Alba look fugly :chuckle

Though the GM car placement was prevalent, there was only one two second clip in the movie where it was a bit out of place (one of the robots was outside the GM dealership sorta "choosing" which vehicle to look like), but other than that, I think that it was done tastefully.

When the "more than meets the eye" line was used at the end the crowd got up and cheered quite a bit, and whoever stayed a few minutes into the credits may have noticed a 2 second clip (maybe even less than 2 seconds) that opens up room for a sequel?

I think each character portrayed their G1 counterparts..
Optimus Prime... Leader of the Autobots... Will protect all living beings, and sacrifice his life..
Ironhide... Shortfused yet always wants to fight... True to the movie
Jazz... Not being racist but an urban style black fellow who loves to dance and get down... (you'll know what i mean when you see him)
and bumble bee... The fun loving character that you will grow and love.. He will do anything to protect Spike..err... Sam
Ratchet.. there medic

Megatron... Evil and insulting to starscream
Starscream... He will just destroy anything in its path
Brawl.. Devastator?... same as starscream but more precise and strategic in its target
Blackout... I believe he wasn't in G1.. probably G2 but wicked!!!
Baracade... My favorite.. Respect my authoritale!!!, not from G1...Season 2 or 3... from the stunticons?

All in all they all lived up to their G1 characters.

Yup... 2 seconds after the movie says it all!!!

Favorite part... When they were trying to hide at sam's house.
And bumble bee trying to loosen up sam to get with Megan!!!! LOL
BEE-OTCH!!!!

It was a very entertaining movie. My expectations started out really low (hearing that they'd all be GM cars, that they would have lips, wouldn't really stick to the G1 designs, etc.) but as I saw more teaser pics and trailers, I grew more fond of the more realistic designs. Plus, they kept most of the personalities intact and as a bonus, the movie was surprisingly humourous.

I'd be excited if the sequel features the Constructicons and the Dinobots. :)

Great action sci-fi flick, but there were a couple of characters that they should have save for the next instalment, like the computer analyst and her hacker friend. I'd hope they have more Autobots for the next film, because they were sure outnumbered in this one. And all of the Autobots were relatively small compared to the oversized Decepticons, just watch how Megatron tore Jazz in half. lol.

One of the great attribute of this movie, has got to be the special effects and computer graphics. Really top notch stuff, like the fluid motions of the character, the shadow and lighting, texture on the robots and realistic physics. Everything seems believable and realistic, except Frenzy, I find that character a little too shiny for my liking.

The movie was slow until you pass the halfway point, then it gets interesting with all the action fight scenes in the city. With the Autobots being outnumbered, they're also out gunned in this first movie. Checkout BubbleBee puny plasma gun to Blackout's blaster, lol. It like pea-shooter versus a Bazooka, no comparison! They gotta upgrade the Autobots for the next time around, with cooler weapons. Maybe even extra armour.

Didn't see too much dialogue coming from the Decepticon, would be great for character development. Definitely would like to see more Megatron vs. Starscream diatribe next time around.

A nice summer blockbuster for this year, and I highly recommend it to everyone. Looking forward to the next movie, and I hope they take us to Cybertron on the next instalment. Oh, I forgot Megan Fox was a hottie in the flick.

yea, the last clip kinda makes me think unicron is gonna be in the sequel but who knows
Yes Megan Fox was extra sexy and so was that other broad w/ the hacker. I guess they blocked out alot of her tats. But everyone in that movie I had seen in another flick. This was a stacked cast period.
Anyway, great movie, recommended to anyone

I think the interesting thing was that despite being outgunned on a per-robot comparison and outnumbered, the Autobots usually fought as a team and almost always took on the Decepticons one at a time.

And Jazz getting killed off played out like a story technicality. Seems like the writers needed to bump an Autobot off to demonstrate Megatron's brutality. They couldn't use Prime (already had the big 1v1 coming up, plus no sequel and closure narrative to match the beginning if he died), Ironhide (even the veteran Autobot warrior called for a retreat when Megatron shows up - reinforces Megatron's reputation), Bumblebee (too lovable; plus he already got tortured and had a few severed limbs), or even Ratchet (medics aren't allowed to die), ... so by process of elimination, Jazz gets the shortest straw. :P Too bad he's one of the more popular characters.

I also think this will be one of those movies that really (finally?) pushes up the adoption rate of HD-DVD/Blu-Ray when it gets released to disc around Christmas. It'll be one of those films that really shows the difference in detail between DVD and high-def content because of all the CG (over-)detail in the robots.

Very observant!!!! I was asking myself the same thing....

Starscream, and Barricade are still alive. Not to mention another Bezerk... Remember there is two... What about the Mountain Dew Bot, the Xbox bot, and the Escalade bot. Their was also one that turned into a radio, and the other who came from Barricade. I gotta watch it again, to see if these guys where destroyed...

I know that, and so do the director and producer. How are you going to explain to the audience that a large massive robot like Megatron can tranform and actually change his mass and displacement to fit into the hand of another robot?

What they did was compromise and made his arm transform into a gun.

I think they mean him turning into an actual gun, like G1.
Well here's an explaination from IMDB:

Megatron's classic alternate mode was a Walther P38 pistol, but Hasbro the owners, and official distributors of the toyline stated that they would not produce a gun of any kind for their characters (it's also illegal to make replica toy guns in several jurisdictions). Also the writers thought it was like "having Darth Vader transform into his own lightsaber and someone else swinging him around," so it was changed to an "interstellar jet." Megatron was also given a less humanoid face to make him more menacing.

Wow.. am I the only person that found the movie just okay? I thought the special effects were truly top-notch.. but I found the general plot kinda boring and lacking substance - something very common with Michael Bay films (a lot of explosions combined with over dramatilization of scenes with slow motion and music). I really found the one liner's cheesy and the storyline transistions didn't seem to flow that well.

Perhaps I'm overly critical... The characters were somewhat true to the cartoon, I didn't really compare that aspect...

Simpson movie, I'm sorry.. but that movie is 10 years too late!

okay so I saw the movie at the drive-in on Saturday night... and OMG... the movie was incredbile... yes the one liners were cheesy... but cmon guys.. this is a re-make of an old 80's cartoon... what were you expecting?? Also because the movie is going to obviously be a series.. the first one is usually a little dry... as they build up the story... besides who can be disappointed with Prime saying " at the end of the day one shall stand and one shall fall" classic line from the original movie.. when Prime and Megatron are fighting.. the only thing missing was the bootleg 80's rock soundtrack... as for the characters.. they were well designed.. but Frenzy is by no means Shockwave.. let's hope they fix this one in the second movie... overall I think the movie was killer... and with the ending of Prime sending out the message to surviving autobots... just sets it up for more of the original characters to hopefully make appearances.... dino bots?? now how awesome would that be!!

Just some parts of the movie seemed a bit pointless - the hacker bit, Sam's love story, the soldier (Las Vegas dude) with the baby. It should have been more focused on the character development of the actual transformers.. hence the name of the movie (and what the cartoon was about).

Parts of it felt like Armageddon recycled.

I'd like to see Galvatron (Megatron rehashed) as well as Soundwave, Shockwave, and Constuct-a-con's.

I thought one of the decepticons they had shown was part of the construct-a-cons if I'm not mistaken? If they do bring them out in another installment, then the arial-bots need to make an appearance! Someone also mentioned the Dino-bots, Grimlock would be bad arse!
Yes, they messed up that one big-time. Bonecrusher was in the movie and he is part of Devastator. And Devastator was in the movie also! He was the tank.

Interesting. More on Devastator in the movie (from Wiki):

There is some controversy over his name: the toys list the figure as Brawl, but in the film itself, and the official movie novelization, his name is Devastator. According to Roberto Orci, one of the writers of the movie, and Hasbro's Transformers team, "Devastator" is the mistake, and that the character is supposed to be named Brawl. The early leaked script Prime Directives had him named Devastator.

Ya I've mentioned the dino bots a few times.... the arial bots would be cool... but I'd much rather see the dino bots... Grimlock, Slag, Swoop, Snarl and Sludge, especially with the graphics they have now these guys would look amazing!!

I am sure they can write the script to make it work, it just won't match the G1 cartoon.

The main theme of the Transformers movie is Linkin Park - What I've Done.
I can't remember if that was the song during the part you are talking about though.. Probably is.

Man thats a good list for the next movie. But I wouldn't mind seeing the autobots / decepticons that can transform into one big robot:

Constructicons = Devastator
Combaticons = Bruticus
Thundercons / Stunticons = Menasor
Aerialbots = Superion
Protectobots = Defensor
Predacons = Predaking
Team Bullet Train = Railracer
Dinobots = N/A
Insecticons = N/A
Spychangers = N/A

As soon as I saw the Ultimate Bumble Bee I knew I wanted to get one. In August I found out they were available...and then I saw the price $100+ CDN! I thought to myself "Wow, that's a lot of money, but if it's made out of metal, then it should be worth it". I saw one a TRU last month, it's plastic. I left the store without it.

Good flick BTW, I picked up the HD DVD version on Tuesday.

I would love to see the proper Devastator but in the new movie they use the names Devastator and Bonecrusher (one of the constructicons) for two of the Decepticons. While I liked the movie, this was one of the few things that really bothered me about how Michael Bay did this movie...he freely admitted that he really didn't care about some of the original storyline and characters.
