hey everyone was wondering if anyone has heard... anything about this.. there is a rumour going around the office here at CAA that they have decided to open up The old airstrip at downsview air base as a drag strip.. I've heard these rumours before.. but someone just brought it up.. saying he heard about it on the radio.....

I wish, thats like 200 meters away from my work. I don't think they will as planes still come in atleast once a week.

That's what was on the news last night I think. That would be sweet to have something so close, but I think the noise to residents would cause a problem. Don't ya think?

Yes with all the speeding talk and the talk of bringing back photo radar theyt mentioned the track/strip petition on the news last night.

BMW has a lot of their driving events there... it would be cool to have a track/strip there. But like cwp_sedan mentioned I am sure it will get a lot of opposition from people in the area in general.

yeah but don't forget... for the most part... its an industrial area. I think it might be a good idea... at the same time there were no complaints about it being the air base before... so.. I dunno....

The only problem I see with this set-up is that deHavilalnd/Bombarder own the airstrip at Downsview and use it daily for aircraft deliveries, tests flights & employee shuttle services.

As for the noise issues...i think the planes that currently fly there make more noise than the cars would while racing!

and downsview isnt a residental area, so even if you could hear it, it wouldnt be that loud... just put a big concrete wall behind the begining of the strip and bam... noise will be blocked, or directed.

i think it would be a great idea, i mean, get the racing off the streets, and have a reasonable location to do it at.

cayuga is tooooooo far!

now . . question is would it work?

there would have to be an unwritten rule, that cops wont hang around there and nab cars as they leave,

Would that be similar to this: http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/motorsports/0308scc_legal_nighttime_racing_in_san_diego/index.html

Broli, I understand what you are saying... but that will never happen... it should be enforced in that area... cuz there will be alot of fools racing to and from the track... its like st thomas & cayuga... the opp hide out.. near the track.. waiting for the idiots to come out..... I think it's a great idea... I know a track won't resolve everything.. but really think about it.. I'm not condoning street racing cuz I believe in proving yourself at the track... but Cayuga, shannonville and st thomas... are really far for the city and burb people to go to.. which is why there is the problem in dude bud bridge.... putting up a track would reduce the street racing big time in my opinion.. cuz these tools go to cayuga..often... if it was closer.. where they could open up fri/ sat nights.. would relieve alot of the trouble...
