I am looking to get some better sound out of the Mazda 3, especially in the bass. I don't know much about what would be required (ie: do I need an amp to run the subwoofer?). Also, are 4 speakers enough, or has anybody added any others (like to in the very back).

Is it possible for people to post some pics of their current subwoofer setup do get some ideas of what can be done. I am having trouble finding some good pictures of Mazda 3 sedan specifically. Thanks.

I haven't added any speakers. I am running JL speakers all around, and a JL sub woofer in the JL Wedge box. Powered by JL amps, and a Pioneer head unit.

What kind of music do you usually listen to?
When I got mine all I wanted was more bass as well.

I have : Rockford Punch Mono Amp (325.1)
JBL 12inch sub

If you only get a sub I would reccommend getting the bass controller knob.

Stock speakers, tweeter and original HU. I'm running a 2 channel Inifinity amp (311a) with a 10" Rockford Fosgate P1 sub. If you're looking to be heard then you'll have to either change the HU, change all the speakers, add an amp, an a couple of subs or leave the stock HU and get an amp with enough channels to accomodate the cars speakers. Personally my set up is just for some extra bass and it sounds damn good to me.

I'll post some pics ... BTW contact Jeff at audio haven, Davis at selective sound they sells our products with is ORION.

There is a box that ORION makes with a 10 or 12 inch sub, everything is calculated and the box looks awesome. It's a 1000W peak sub and you match that with a ORION HCCA-D600 and you will freak out, sounds just amazing.

We are also authorized Orion dealers, there is lots of brands that sound good in a Mazda 3. If you want to demo some products and see waht will suit your budget give me a shout.

The reason I started this thread is NOT to steal, but to learn :P

I have complete stock right now, and I feel that the bass is the MOST lacking. With a CD or mp3, the sound is "decent' as is, but I would like it to be better.

Let's start with a sub, whats the difference between having 1 or 2. And regardless, would I need an amp for JUST that? Also, I have only seen TWO setups, one is with having a small sub located in the side of the trunk (in that tool area), or having a bigger sub in a GIANT box that takes up most of your trunk. I'd prefer to not loose TOO much trunk space to this sort of thing. That is why I wanted to see pictures to see what creativity people have come up with.

I suppose I could also replace the stock speakers, but at the moment, I thought they sound ok :P

Yes you're going to need an amp to power the sub. I have a single 10" sub and it sounds really good. Like I said, unless you wanna be heard from a mile away, save yourself some dough and just add a single sub and a decently price ($200 or so) amp. You'll be shocked how good it will sound. I had my amp and woofer installed at Lockdown and they did an excellent job.

Get a LOC, run that to a small amp and sub... voila... you have BASS!

You can get those packaged deals from Futureshop/best buy (although i don't really recommend them), or you can purchase them seperately and have it installed professionally... i would highly recommend reading up on car audio, this way when you begin shopping around, you'll be well educated.

Couple of places to start would be;

or

Can a LOC go bad? I have been having an issue where I hit a bump and my subs just go off, so if it's a back road that is bumpy, the sub keeps going off to each bump.

Maybe I need a new LOC :S

^^ the one i gave to you? In the many years ive had that one, ive never had a problem with it....who knows....check your wiring, ground points?

Yeah agree with bubba, sounds like probably a loose connection and most likely to ground.

Well I rechecked my wiring and the ground was very loose. I re-attached it and then went for a drive and all is well now.

i'm in the midst of trying to decide what kind of system i want to build. Originally i've always been against the idea of a sub for the reason of space. Now that ive been looking into it, there seems to be quite a few options that take up less space than i thought.

would an 8" sub be useless? I don't need pounding bass, just something to accompany the door speakers. I find the stock speakers to put out decent low frequencies...but then i'm not an audiophile either.

I'm currently debating on a few brands for speakers.

Polk Momo Series
Boston SL/SX
Focal (Lower end series, either Access or V1)
Eclipse

And the amp i'm thinking of getting and pretty set on it is the

Eclipse EA4100....

I'm thinking of just getting the speakers first and deadening the doors and see if i acheive the sound i want, and if not, then maybe get a sub/box/amp separately.

Does anyone know if BA sounds like Infinitys? I find Infinity's too bright.

07-13-2007, 09:00 PM
he he....

i had today off and spent a good amt of time shopping online....

i just bought a set of BA speakers....guess recommendations are no longer needed....haha

It was a spontaneous purchase, i hope they live up to their reputation.

"Infinitys are too bright.." Tons of people already posted their setup, including myself..

If you want great sound.. get a pair of new speakers, with a more than powerful amplifier.. and most importantly.. an equalizer like the Alpina PXA..

The PXA will make your speakers sound the way you want...

I just took a few pics.

Anything I have to know before I try and load them?

I figure I'm reasonably safe since I live far away, and only two people on here have ever seen my car ( and they've already seen my set up).
