2 stepping?

alright, so today my friend told me about 2 steppin, where it is possible to shoot 3 foot flames out of your exhaust.....

im just wondering if anyone knows what it is and how to do it.....
not that i would want to, cuz it looks like it would destroy something internal...

it sounds like there are hitting teh rev limiter, but it sounds WAY worse tho....

looks like all boosted cars revving to a point that the turbo builds enough pressure to blow fresh fuel past the exhaust valve durring overlap. the gasses are then ignited by the exhayst when the port opens. the loud clapping sound is prolly an effect of this. as for the flames comming out the bottom on the last car, beats the hell outta me. all i can think is that charge is somehow making its way back down and out the bov when the rev limiter kicks and the revs drop.

Misfireing System for Turbos

Definition:
A misfiring system is a turbo ALS(Anti-Lag System), it first starts off by running rich then retards the ignition timing by 40 degrees. with the delayed ignition timing this results in some of air fuel mixture being vented into the exhaust manifold unburned. When the mixture hits the hot exhaust manifold it ignites on contact and this is what keeps the turbo spooling even when the driver lifts off the throttle. With the air fuel mixture igniting outside cylinder is what causes the loud bangs. Some of the mixture will continue burning through the exhaust system resulting in flames shooting out the muffler. Note that a misfiring system will wreck havoc and greatly reduce the life of an engine.

i was just wondering how you did it... cuz i figured it had something to do with 2 steps.... plus i was just wondering what it was.... lol

so its pretty much only restricted to turbo'd engines lol

You can always do it the old school way with a sparkplug, a coil, a sparkplug wire, a trigger and some wiring.

wont work so well on newer cars unless you have a way of retarding the timing to get those unburnt gasses out the tailpipe. it was easy to do on the older cars because of the lack of emissions devices and carbeuration. when reved quickly the carbeurator will burn rick letting lots of unburnt gasses out the back end.

haha, ive always wanted to buy an older truck or hotrod, slam it on 'bags, and do it up all old school, and put flamethrowers in the exhaust tips....

but i still dont think that you need a motor to '2 step' cuz in the video it siad h22 civic all motor..... so i dunno..... i'll ask around and get back to ya guys....
