Some of you might be relieved, disappointed or indifferent but I’ve decided to remove myself from the daily operations @ TM3. Why? Tons of reasons, but lately a few events that just put the nail in the coffin:

absolutely nothing being done to Broli after he hotlinked a picture and later it changed to an obscene graphic
eyelids getting stolen from a seller due to n00bs having read access to BST (I’ve been against that since day 1)
dr1ft3r posting the contents of a PM (*private* message for those who don’t know what it stands for) from me to him, for everyone to see – the mods could have told him to use an example/paraphrase or ‘one mod said this another said that’ but nobody did.
Changing meet names or not allowing people other than the meet founders to call meets in the respective areas
The list goes on..

Those are just off the top of my head as I haven’t even really logged on in the past two weeks. It’s been therapeutic to say the least. It got tedious putting almost everyone on the ignore list with a huge influx of n00bs as of late (or maybe just a ton of unmoderated n00bie topics and questions without a prior search).

I hate being the ‘bad guy’ all the time with little support and I’m sick of having to fight most of you on many of the topics. It just seems like this isn’t the same TM3 (tm3.com and the den) I used to know to be the friendly community. Part of the problem in my opinion is the fact that the maturity level has plummeted. A lot of dust is kicked up over petty things. Maybe it was to be expected with the 3 hitting a broad range of customers including the kids in school. And no, it doesn’t have anything to do with people being computer savvy, it’s the effort that counts and there was a visible lack of it with most people just wanting solutions handed to them on a silver platter. Oh well, as they say ‘c’est la vie’.

In addition to the above, the moderating team isn’t on the same page and we’ve been often challenged by the TM3 members because we don’t moderate by the same rules. Even worse yet we don’t enforce those same rules on each other and therefore suffer no consequences as a result of questionable actions. We are *NOT* above the law and, we are human and understandably make mistakes. Unfortunately there has been little in a way of penalties assessed since it’s difficult to admit to the mistakes without losing face. Unfortunately that would be the *RIGHT* thing to do. Speedbaby and others hit it BANG on in that ‘politics’ thread. We say too much and do too little (most of the time).

Maybe you guys can take what’s here and improve upon or just leave it as is. I’ve tried my best to help out on the forum, pointing folks to the right thread, asking to search, etc. The methods I’ve used might be questionable by some but they have worked for most part. Now, I’ve said my piece and most likely won’t see the responses to my post so don’t go too crazy rejoicing upon my exit. The ride’s been bittersweet and I wish you guys luck with the forum.

It is unfortunate that you are leaving. You have been a great resource for the board and community. We had our disagreements but more often than not could find a common ground.

I honestly think you should stay and help keep things on the board in check. Despite the differences you have with some members I am sure they know that your intentions are good. Sometimes viewed as harsh, sometimes viewed as Mr.Badguy as mentioned but honestly those who have met you and talked to you in person can vouch for your character.

+1 to see ya stay.....

reconsider leaving! If you leave, the board will just get worse.
I've honestly found myself surfing my friend's club forum more often then TM3 lately.

Stay man, I'll help out, just let me know how.

Looks like people are allowed to paint their calipers with brushes again... flame free atleast. :chuckle

We bumped heads once or twice, but regardless of that, you did a good job moderating things.

I agree with some of the stuff you mention, but like afterall, its just a forum, you shouldnt let it mean that much to you!

Majic, sorry that you have decided to leave the board. I'm in no way going to try to convince you to stay because your decision is your decision and nobody has the right to tell you what you can and what you can't do. However, you have brought up many valid points and the constant factor is that things are going differently than you wish them to be or how they were in the past. Evolution or deterioration, who knows? But you have been a big part of this board and contributed so much that I personally believe your departure is a true loss. Maybe consider staying and just taking on the responsiblity of a MOD? It's up to you but whatever you choose, good luck, and thanks for all the input, ease.

07-09-2007, 03:28 PM
yes the forum has changed, that happens when we have new members all the time, and many of them very active in the club, the club personality is dynamic and directly related to the members that make it up. If you don't like the way it changes, that is a shame, but not a reason to quit. majic you are a good board mod/admin it is too bad that you leave ur post. I hope that you reconsider!

oh sh*t....

Didn't see that coming. Things won't be the same around here without the ole majic. I too miss the smaller community TM3.com, there's just been a lot of newcomers coming in that want to leave a mark on the community. Which sometimes resulted in treadmarks instead. lol.

* sigh

We're going to miss you, dude. Drop us a post once in awhile and say "hi".

Dude you can't leave...

My highlights of the day are seeing noobs posting threads without searching and then you reeming them out.

I also agree with the B/S/T needing to be revised, as someone can sign up and immediately view the classifieds and never come back after that. Minimum posts or member status should be needed in order to view the classifieds.

If you do maintain the option to leave, you will greatly be missed and I never had the chance to even meet you.

Maybe or could just resign from your mod position, but still stay here.

I have some questions to ask you about this...

I found this by searching :)

And if you decide to remove your mod status than you will have less responsibilities, but still remain a member of this forum.

Dont leave guy.

I agree with all the above. I know we haven't had much opportunity to communicate on the boards, but just on a rational and logical level, the world itself is lacking a lot of discipline nowadays.

It's hard not to want to give up and enforce those rules and standards that noobs and teenage kids call "old fashioned" nowadays.

But you can't stop and just let things run amuck.

Nonetheless i agree with sauga kid and that this is your decision.

I hope this doesn't turn into TCC either, but what can we really do if no one is willing to enforce whiny kids who complain and like you said 'want everything handed on a silver platter'.

It's like me saying, i don't want to have kids, cuz they'll grow up and probably get stuck in the wrong crowd of gangsters and punks, cuz those are the only kids that seem "cool" nowadays.... just gotta keep striving for what is right.

Well im sorry things turned out this way. if whatever i said pushed you over the edge for making this decision, then i wish i could take it all back. In retrospect i see that i was in the wrong for using your pm to get my point across and for that i hope that you and everyone else in this forum will forgive me. I love this forum and only wish for it to grow and grow in the right direction. And from what i can see it is headed in the right direction because of the contributions you have made as well as all other moderators. I don't think my apologies will change your decision, but i hope it changes your views of my character. Good luck, hope you stick around.

Well majic, remember way back when I warned you that these days were coming? I've seen the J-body clubs go through the same thing. Drama and conflict partially drawn from a surge in numbers of new members. The thing is, they survived.

First things first - the TM3 admins/mods list is too big IMO. The more people there are, the more inconsistencies there will be....

Pfft!!

Really though, majic and I have had our moments of butting heads but in the end, I think there's been a certain mutual respect. I say without a doubt that I'd rather be involved in this forum with him around, than without him.

They survived... but they changed and how they changed had a lot to do with the integrity of the moderators.

People have to realize that moderating a growing forum is no easy task, and the core membership needs to stand behind the moderators with this in mind. New people will come in and think they own the place and can do whatever they want. When the majority of the membership doesn't put up with this and supports the actions taken by the moderators, then the entire community continues to function as a positive entity.

As noobs learn the ropes, they also learn the value that the moderators add, and eventually become a part of the greater good, or leave.

There will always be troublemakers and what not, but as long as the majority of the members are here for the good of the site, and we have moderators who are fair but don't put up with any crap, things will always be good here.

Stick around majic. This is still a relatively new forum and it will continue to take shape over time. In a few years from now, you'll realize that the friends and contacts you keep from it will be worth putting up with any crap that comes up.

majic, you were definitly one of the members that straightened me out many a time while I was a new member. You've been a good moderator and although not all of us agree I still believe that we've done a decent job as a collective team, and you are a big part of that team.

But as someone else stated, its your decision. I am sad to see you go as a moderator, and I hope you stick around.

I've been involved with many online forums and "communities" over the years, some from their inception. My experience leads me to say that you might as well just remove search from a forum and be done with it. Most aren't going to use it.

Now, the more interesting question is: why?

There's a sense that having people ask questions, especially the same questions, is annoying. I respectfully submit this is the wrong attitude to take.

Asking questions is what new people are supposed to do. It's what makes them new. When a person stops asking questions and starts answering them, they've made the transition from new to veteran. No one WANTS to be new for any longer than they have to be.

Part of the price for being a veteran in any community is answering those questions, even if it's the 10,000th time you've heard it.

But more importantly, asking questions, at least in a face to face situation is how people socialize. It's how you make friends. Why? Because answering questions is helping someone.

By trying to funnel people to some unsatisfactory "search" experience you rob others of that chance to help someone. Ultimately, isn't the one of the reasons for a club like this?

TM3 isn't unique here. I see this on virtually ever forum I frequent and I never understand it.

So long "Majoogle" It was great while it lasted.

One of the original TM3ers in the board..... *Sigh* we lost another one.

BTW.. If he is tired of telling people what to do over and over, I'm behind him 100%... His job was to control the forum from becoming out of hand, and he did just that!!! Although he had quarrels from members, his final say shut them up and brought them back on track. Its gonna be tough to find another Majoogle, Good luck in other forums..

Dont be a stranger if we run into eachoter at OAKTOWN!!!!.
