Hey guys, I'm getting curious, does anyone know what Mazda has in store for the 2008 model year? Should be only minor updates since 2009 should be a redesign. :)

for 2009 mazda will make the 3 a little bigger....to make room for the mazda 2.
Just like honda made the civic bigger to make room for the fit.

Well, 2004 to 2006 came out with 160 on the 2.3. The 2007+ cam eout with 156HP. TQ did not change...

HP didn't change, it was just an adjustment to the ratings according to the new SAE standards, IIRC.

I think SilentJay means that the calculations changed.. 04-06 = 160 HP according to their calculations.. in 07 the ratings/calculations changed so Mazda couldn't advertise 160 HP anymore.. they could only say 156 HP..

160HP is still way faster than 156Hp any day:gone

did you read the entire thread before posting?

SAE changed the way they did their calculations, hence the lower horsepower. Someone in the thread already mention this. So this horsepower change applies to all cars (e.g. Corolla/matrix). They were rated 130 HP now its 126.

Yep! just the calculation change. Same engine and no tuning.
Just like gas mileage for 2008 will be lower for all vehicles across the US.

In the Netherlands we only can get 1.4, 1.6 and the 2.0.
The 2.0 (the one who we have) has 150HP.
If there is a 2.3 here in holland it will come from the USA or Canada.
One time i've seen one for sale on the internet here in Holland.

It's really too bad about the calculation change. But since we know it's the same engine, what is everyone saying when they talk to their friends? Are the 04-06 guys still saying 160HP? Would I, with my 07, be wrong to say 160HP if I'm talking to a Civic guy?
