Pick something that suits the dog and it's personality. I've had a Tippy (White tip on the end of the tail), a Tanner (All tan) and now Aussie, who is an Australian Sheppard.

The mix says that the dog should be small, so maybe Micro or Cooper(as in Mini Cooper).

Congrats though, he's a nice lookin pooch:)

Just my 2 cents

I like the name Max, but it's so common for a dog's name. I know two on my street...

I actually think Fargo is a good name but, according to the experts, a one-syllable name is best because it sounds more like a harsh bark that will get the dog's attention.

I like Herc.

I know someone who named their dog 'Dawg'.

One of my sister's dogs was named Towser but a French-speaking friend misheard and starting calling him 'Pantalones' (french for trousers/pants). :chuckle

If you can't decide on a name for him, I can take him off your hands. He's so cute! I mean, what use is a nameless dog? He'll never come when he's called?

I am with blynch on this one, and based on what I've done with all my pets, I think you should name them something that goes with their personality.

I find it very odd that out of all the dogs I've worked with and/or met, I have NOT met a Max yet, and I know that is a VERY common name.:whoa

Look up crate training. Always works well. Leave the little monster locked up for the fist couple of months. He'll learn to appreciate not shitting and pissing in his "home". ;) And be sure to give him/her shit when they do it, followed by an immediate walk/bath. :P

Did you see a recent article about the Tintin books? Smoe of them are getting banned or moved into adult sections of libraries because they tend to be quite racist, or at best grossly ignorant of other cultures.

is he crying a lot when you leave him? thats normal. just start leaving him alone in intervals and let him cry it out. he just wants to get the sense that you're coming back once and a while. get a crate and put some of his toys etc in there to make it feel more like home. after he eats, about 30mins later take him for a walk. when he does his business outside reward him with a treat. he will associate taking a dump outside with a walk and a treat. i did all this with my husky when he was a pup and it worked out very well.

Thanks for the advice BETRTHNU !

Yes, i do put him in a crate at night before I go to bed. And Yes, he does whine a lot but I have never let him out whenever he does.

When he's home alone, i lock him up in this room so he is able to roam free to a certain extent. I placed newspaper there and I'd say he does his business on it about 70% of the time. It seems that once he pees on the paper he doesn't want to do anything else on it. For example, I went to the doctors this morning and when i came back there was pee on the newspaper and a nice piece of hot fudge in the middle of the room. He HAS poo'd on the newspaper before, i just don't understand why he doesn't do it all the time.

PJ was raised in a condo and didn't see/feel grass until i brought him home. He loves the grass now, maybe a little too much as he takes mouths of the stuff every time I take him out. I try to stop him but he is very persistent. Will he eventually grow out of this? (have you experienced it?).

Also, I have just been letting him out in my backyard to run around. Approx. what age should he be on a leash and collar and can be taken for walks in the park ? There is a lot of information regarding all this stuff on the net, believe me, I have read most of it. But the information is not consistent and I would just like to get the opinions of others that have dogs on the board.

Thanks,

-Andrew

Hey,

There are a lot of misconceptions and theories regarding why dogs eat grass. One of them is that they have an upset stomach, and grass usually allows them to vomit. I have seen this personally, but it is not always the case. Some dogs do grow out of it, others don't. What I can tell you is not to encourage the behaviour if it gets bothersome - it leads to vomiting. Another idea is that he may be eating grass to obtain nutrients that may be missing or inadequate in his diet - you know, like how most people eat both meat and vegetables/fruits to get a balanced diet.

As for what age to let him out, I have known dogs as young as a few months out on leashes at the park. I have walked some of these personally. Just be prepared for a lot of tugging and pulling until he learns to walk side by side with you. Start off with short walks, and then gradually increase your time outside with him so that he does not get too overwhelmed.

As for the accidents at home, that is pretty normal from what I have seen. So far, I have only met ONE dog that was successfully litter box trained, and even then, he would miss the box from time to time. (Believe it or not, he was a 14 pound Yorkie - yes, I said FOURTEEN.) All the rest of the dogs I have known would pee around the newspaper or miss it or do something similar. Once he learns to wait until he goes outside to pee, accidents at home should not be a problem. Maybe try a pee pad. It may or may not work as well as the newspaper.

I hope I have helped answer some of your questions for you. I will try to add to this later. I want to hit my books to make sure what I'm saying is up to date.:)

I also agree with what BETRTHNU wrote.:)

By the way, if I haven't already said it, PJ is VERY cute!:hawt
