I have been looking around (only on the internet so far) for a security system for my Mazda 3 and there seem to be lots out there but I can't seem to find any that indicate they have a proximity sensor. I want something so if someone gets near there is some sort of warning beep so people know a system is installed... Has anyone installed a security system like this or know of somewhere I can check one out?
Thanks for any help

Please use the search function and enter 'security' under your search.
You will see many ppl who have had security installed and have asked about security as well. At least once you have some general knowledge you can come back and ask some specific questions about models when you narrowed down what you might want and what you're actually looking for.
What you want is a proximity sensor which is available on most systems now. But look around, there are bad things and good things to it.
Additionally we have a sponsors section

Browse through lockdown and audioheaven for some security deals that they have.

Im pretty sure the compustar pro has something to the effect of a proximity sensor, but be realistic, in a parking lot if someone parks beside you itll go off...
shock sensor (which compustar has) is good enough imo, cause with most alarms you will have a flashing light or a big easily seen sticker... if someone wants to break into your car though, an alarm isnt stopping them.

Matt C your right the compustar pro does have the proximity sensor as an add on... as for its settings they can be changed to very sensitive or not so sensitive... if its sensitive every movement the car picks up will set it off... the proximity is kind of a weird thing.... cuz its very tempermental...... the shock sensor is a good one though!!

i agree but i find the shock sensor is way to sensitive i have mine set at like 3 and it goes off for the slightest thing lol.
As for the flashing lights and knock sensors installed imo i think it attracts more people to come see what you are protecting then when you leave everything basic and stock looking. Thats just my oppinion

I remember someone at Conestoga College had one (proximity add on). I used to park beside him/her every morning. The alarm didn't get set off when you came near the car but only had a warning beep which would indicate to people that you in fact do have an alarm. I have had my car broken into several times now and I am trying to avoid the damage that is caused when they do break in as I don't keep anything expensive inside of the car. This time the repair bill is going to be close to 900 dollars. The shock sensor would not be able to provide this kind of protection as it would only be set off after the damage has been done.

That's fine.
You should really talk to either Lockdown of Audioheaven about this.
They can tell you exactly what you want to know and recommend to you exactly what you may need.
In the end you may want to consider even if you have a security system, if it'll help. What i mean is, if you park in secluded area's such as the go station or in a back alley in the middle of the nights, alarms will do little to deter someone from breaking into your car, if they really want something.
I have a compustar installed mainly because I never really plan to be too far away from my car. Aka, mall, movies, friends houses, etc. Close enough for me to run out and catch someone that may be breaking in or try and do a hit and run.
Of course i hope it deters theft along the way at the same time from even happening at all. I do not have a proximity sensor though, because it would be annoying to get a page everytime someone vibrates along my car.
I get annoyed as it is when my idiot friends shake my car up to set off the first stage shock sensor lol.
