I'm looking at a new set-up. Are these worth the $800

Yes, these are worth $800. They will lack a strong bottom end but they will be fairly realistic when it comes to vocal and other midrange. Energy have always made speakers that are worth more than they cost, at least there home audio is known for that. Consider looking at Paradigm if you haven't already, probably the best bang for the buck around. Some things to think about as well, when you get into this kind of audio you'll want to make sure you're running a good amp and your treble and bass are always set to flat and never turn the volume past 1 o'clock.

oh and make sure you break them in well before putting the high volumes to them. fastest way to break them in is to hook them up out of phase and point them at each other (about 3 inches apart) and run them at moderate volume with normal music - avoid dance or house or bass test disks - for a few hours, while you're at work or somthing.

Energy makes a really nice speaker.

I can't seem to get the link to open to those exact speakers, but I can tell you as a former employee of API that the Energy line is not only exceptionally built but a underated line of speakers, along with the Mirage line also built by API, both of which I own (RVSS system with Mirage subwoofer). For very life like sound you can't go wrong and I think the price seems very good also, as the MSRP has always been high for the Energy line.

The speakers themselves are already broken in and tested individually at the factory before packaged...but its true you'd want to avoid any instant max (distorted) volume inputs, but a good moderately loud undistorted marathon should help in many ways:chuckle

Thats kool, same thing when I got my system, I was working there-(API) at the time and picked up my whole system for just under $1000. Saved about $3000, mind you they are 'seconds' with slight blemishs on the back, not even noticeable though....and I got most of that money back picking up speakers and selling them to friends and friends of friends.Anyways later I picked up a Yamaha 7ch-receiver, ...that was ten years ago and still going strong....oh just wondering what is the ohms resistance of your speakers? cause Energy systems were usually 6ohm at the time I was there and you have to get an amp capaple of running 6 ohm speakers.
