Hey,

I'm really bent on ramping up my stock MS3 as soon as i take delivery.
So far, thanks to your input, i'm being advised to do these mods:

CAI, Catback, IC upgrade, & computer upgrade. With these mods alone, can i outperform a stock WRX STI? Also, how many also recommend headers, downpipe & high flow cat converter on top of the other upgrades? I'm willing to spend to rule the road..... 'show we're supreme.

Thanks.

I'd say you're gonna need everything you can throw in there and you might get close

depends on the situation too.. I think the AWD handling capabilities of the STi will lose you in the corners.. but straight line.. you'd probably beat it out

getting the power isnt the problem. i think, its putting that power to the ground is where your gonna ahve some trouble. if you really want to take out the STi, definatly some suspension upgrades, 17" lightweight wheels w/ dot r tires. and some patience to learn the car.

with the amount of money you would have to spend to get near 300hp, you might as well get an STI!

Sell your 3, buy a 300zx TT for 11k or less, put 5-10 grand into it, and you will be able to beat almost everything on the road, and end up saving a few grand.

Another alternative is to get a Speed 6.

With a turbocharged engine like the one in the speed3 you won't need headers, the exhaust manifold replace the headers and there goes the turbine attached to that, instead of the headers you might want to get the down pipe replaced (the DP goes after the turbine and before the section that includes the second cat in the speed3), the stock down pipe includes a cat, the first one after the turbine, an after market down pipe will include a high flow cat and will be made out of 3" mandrel bent stainless steel, then you can add a race pipe, sold for example, for TurboXS in the US which is a 3" SS pipe without the cat, the stock one comes with a cat, after the racepipe section comes the exhaust, or so called catback exhaust.

So you need, CAI, I would go for a front mount intercooler (FMIC), or a bigger TMIC, DP, CBE and EMS, the Accessport EMS from Cobb is coming soon, with this unit you don't need to cut any wire, works thru your OBDII port, or the cp-e StandBack that is also under development and last and more expensive of the three; the Xede, with all these at some point you'll reach more than 300WHP as some people in the US has dynoed +/- 240whp from stock, if you still want more go for a turbo upgrade, ATPturbo.com has a turbo apgrade program that will put you any where from 400whp to 600whp as per their advertising but at that stage you should upgrade some internals, more likely the rods as I read these are the weakest internal part in the speed3 once you go over 350whp.

Like Garu said, you also need to upgrade suspension and traction components and as he stated right first of all the engine mount which seams to be very faulty for the speed3 when you need to put all the power to the ground.

As for beat an STi, they dyno +/-250-260whp on stock mod, so the speed3 its not to far! :)

Before putting all that power, upgrade the rear engine mount to that of AWD or SU. I'll probably go with SU. Then upgrade your springs to lower your car. I recommend springs that lowers more on the front then the rear. Get wider wheels and tires. 235 or 245. 17" is probably better.

After you've done this, get CAI and full turbo back, that's DP + CBE. After that upgrade your IC than get an EMS.
Now this will put about 300 to 350 whp, depending on your EMS. If you want to go crazy, upgrade the turbo to something larger.

I think this shopping list is about 5k to 7k... Is it worth it? Hell ya.

I think even if you get it to 300 hp, power to weight will also be a factor. But the STI is heavier by 300kg (Source: http://driving.canada.com/research/specs/?make=Subaru&model=Impreza&year=2007), compared to the MS3 (Source: http://www.mazda.ca) so I think ull give it a good run for its money. But in the corners as Azi said that thing is a deamon.

If you are driving on the street and looking to beat the pants off STI's, you usually dont take corners in street races, so all you need to do is go real fast in a straight line, which the speed is good for.

keep in mind that many of the sti's out there are also modded.... you're biggest need is to get your tires to hook up so you can keep up with them

1. I'm a noob to this forum in post-count alone. I'm on here a bit, but i don't have a lot to say....

2. I'm not a noob to upgrading cars.

3. I actually use the search function that noobs get laquered for not using by all of the non-noob members... so i figured out what to do to get the results I wanted early.

4. Thanks :)

Yea. You caught me before I could convince others. It must be a fantastic feeling.
For a moment there, I forgot what car communities are like and started posting without searching, but I did a search and nope, haven't posted this reply yet so lesson learned.

Back to the topic, I'm not sure if MS3 can ever be a 'STI killer'.
A stock 2008 STI will do 4.5sec 0 to 60 , perhaps you should consider a Corvette or something.

or just spend the 10k to 15k more to get an sti. the sti is a great car off the line, aroud the twisties year round.... they laugh at srt4's and their roll races as that is really the only thing that plays into a fwd's favour.

0 to 60 and quarter mile times willl go to the sti, hwyy rolls and track days can be done for less money so it just depends on what maters too you...
