Got a speeding ticket for 40 over. Before you judge, it was on Highway 11 in the middle of nowhere with little cars.

Went camping up near North Bay and got caught by the OPP on the way down. I checked online and in Ontario, 40 over means 4 demerit points. I'm going to X-coppers or something, so at least I can get the demerit points dropped.

Here's my question, if I don't manage to get it dropped, how much does 4 demerit points affect my insurance? Prior to this, my driving record has been spot clean.

Cheers,
Bo

Insurance does not take into consideration points. This is one of the biggest misconceptions about insurance.

But you will get dinged huge on your renewal premium because of the major speeding ticket.

Fight it for sure. Get it down as low as you can. Depending on which insurance company you are with, they could consider a lesser charge as a minor ticket - meaning less of an increase in premium.

Or even better, try to get rid of it altogether!

Good luck.

If I'm not considered a primary driver on the vehicle, does the ticket still affect the premium equally?
