I'm considering getting a broadband phone so I can have unlimited long distance, just wondering if it's any good?
If you could tell me the name of the company too that would be great.
I had one at my previous place through Cogeco, bundled with my Digital Cable and Internet
it's not bad.. pretty much works just like your regular phone
I would sometimes be able to hear a slight 'clicking' sound when on a call, but it wasn't overly annoying and the other party couldn't hear it.
The only thing was if the power goes out.. you have no phone

If you have a home alarm system it may not operate either. ADT and the other big players need a working phone line for their systems to monitor your home.
Fark!

I heard that 911 has trouble identifying your address from your phone number since it connects it over to the center where you get your line. It would take upwards of 20 mins just to get your number by contacting the provider directly. Saw this on the news awhile back, not sure if its still a problem.
^ya I believe 911 service is still a problem

Never thought of that. I found this out from Rogers:

I use Primus Broadband and have no problems. The only down fall is if you have internet problems you will have no phone line, luckily it has not happened to me yet. I love the features that you can use, like to forward calls and even make telemarketers call each other! haha. The Primus console is quite neat. I am also quite glad that they have Linksys gateways, quality brand for an important product.
Very helpful that you can take your phone line with you anywhere too, they even have the packages where you can take your gateway with you and use your phone in other provinces etc. At $20 a month I am more then happy! (no long distance, thats an extra $5 or something)
