Does anyone know a place in toronto that does repairs for xbox 360? I am getting the error 0102 error code and is mostly a heating issue. I am in the scarborough area. Thanks!

Mine died about a month ago and was giving me the red ring of dead. I called the XBox number and they sent me a box to return the unit.

Very streamlined process. 3 weeks later, I had a new XBox which seems to be working now.

I got a red ring this morning. I am going to send it in for repair, but I also bought myself an Elite at Costco this afternoon (gotta love their return policy).

I'd recommend you do the entire process online through xbox.com... Took me about an hour on the phone.

Hmmm..After you guys mention it...I just got the red ring yesterday, but all I did was restart it and my Xbox was fine?

Give it a few more days and it'll be completely dead. Mine went through the same process.

i read something online where a guy got the heat related error, and he wrapped it in a towel, and it fixed the problem, I don't remember how...

try this? (http://www.engadget.com/2005/11/25/how-to-fix-your-overheating-360/)

WeatherB

LOL, that fix is classic... I think they resolved in the later generations by adding a fan to the power adapter.

The red light issue is caused by the graphics processor becoming so hot that it literally unsolders itself from the board. The towel fix actually attempts to increase the internal temperature enough so that the solder will remelt and connect.

sorry guys my box has been opened so I cant send it in. Besides it takes at least 6 weeks to get it repaired from MS ever since they upped the warranty to 3 yrs. I was hoping pmall would do it but called around and no luck.

I think the towel trick is used by wrapping the 360 itself with a towel.

I am really considering this since I cant seem to find someone to fix it....

WeatherB

No one can fix it, since they need a BGA soldering machine for those processors.

You can always just purchase a new motherboard for it off of eBay. I think I saw some for around $100US.

Theres another way to do it but...... not very ethical...

Buy a new one from costco or walmart..

Switch the insides and return it to the store.....

One way to solve it... but... haha.. up to you..

I bought the xbox 360 pro from walmart during the sale and I was wondering...

does anyones 360 stall/crash?

does anyones xbox 360 not always read the disk inside?

These things happen to me occasionally and I'm debating if I should return it to Walmart and get the elite sometime down the road or send this one in for repair.

That doesn't sound good, I'd return it and make sure that the new one was built after July 2007.

This one dates July 27th 2007... It's the new ones with the elite mobo and Hdmi.

Word of advice....

Side of XBOX package is a white SKU#....

beside has the following...

LOT # (anything with a number higher than 731 is a good unit and current... Rumours speculated 734 is the Falcon NANO chip but I have only seen 731 and 732... I currently have the 732 MFG August 16, 2007 (halo edition 360) but I dont know if its me but I loss the interest of playing it... I will return it soon.

I don't get how people rant and rave about the 360. It's fun to play... but if Mazda 3's had this many problems with.. let's say rad failures then engine failures, and them being *******s about warranties until people simply stopped buyinig them.. would we be buying the mazdas realistically?

:P
Everyone I know that owns a 360 has had to send it back, save a handful of people.
Same principal as buying a fun looking pc that you KNOW will crash repeatedly. Woot! :P

I have a 729... I read that these were the good ones too because they had the added heat sink. I took out my HD and noticed the problems weren't happening. No the dirty disk error and no crashing error. I might as well return it to walmart and get a new one.

Does anyone know how to transfer the gamer profiles so I don't lose my progress?

Heat sink and copper tubing to be exact.... Still causes the issues.... I agree with Evild DeadFAn,,, not all cars have the same issue... Its just a bad batch... So far Ive been playing with mine for a total of 5 hours, and nothing different... I'll return it after my blockbuster rentals are finished ;)

I don't have any problems with my 360.. the only thing that may happen is the game/system will crash.. but in the past year it has only happened 2 or 3 times while playing a game..

I've never had a problem reading discs..

well, you could always just open up the new 360 and swap out harddrives.. that would be the easiest solution.. otherwise, I think u'll need a 360 hd copier (or whatever they're called) or a memory card.. I wish there was a way to copy saved games onto a usb drive.. but no such luck (that I know of)..

I have a feeling the HD is the problem, without it everything runs smooth.

I really don't want to return it, I like the 360 and it's much cheaper then the ps3.

Another thing making me not want to return it is that I sold one of the games that came in the original bundle. I don't know if walmart will let me return it without the game. I wonder if they'll let me just exchange the console.

hey everyone so I actually ended up sending my box into MS and got it back with the new heatsink and my warranty extended. The box seems to be less hot as before (but maybe cause the recent weather is cool). It took about 3 weeks for them to swap it with a refurbed one. So far so good!

Btw, you can check if you have the new heatsink/65nm CPU by using a flash light and checking the bottom of the 360 (opposite end of the HD). More info if you google it up. I hear both can still give 3 red lights but no matter since you get 3 yrs coverage and I am sure I would have sold my 360 before 2010.

I also had this happen to me few weeks ago while playing. I called them up and went through the whole process over the phone and received a new xbox360 within 2 weeks. They told me it would take 3-4 weeks but I received mine earlier than expected.

Just the new extended heatsink for GPU but no 65nm CPU. Try out my method I mentioned and use the flashlight on the heatsink used for the CPU. If it has a copper tube attached to it, you're using the 90nm chip.

How to check heatsink without opening up your box:

you definitely should be able to exchange the whole system since you just bought it.. I can't see why not since you're keeping the product..

To make a long story short, I went to Orangeville walmart and they sold the last one while I was waiting in the returns line. So I called around for it and no walmart has the 360 pros. I gave up and returned it.

I purchased my xbox 360 yesterday at Best Buy, brought it home, plugged it in and found out it was DOA. I couldn't believe it. So I unhappily brought it back to Best Buy hoping to exchange it for another one, since I saw 4 available packages on display 2 hours earlier I wasn't worried at all. When I got back, all of them were gone. I was watching the last 360 being purchased in front of my eyes. I talked to the gentleman in the department and he said they'd give us a credit so we can come back when they had more stock. I was so pissed, so I lined up in that long return/exchange line, and asked what else they could do for me. They suggested I could buy the Halo 3 Edition and pay for the difference. Because I didn't want to wait another few weeks, I decided to buy that one. Unfortunately the Halo 3 package didn't come with the 3 games the Pro Bundle offered.

Anyways, as I was exiting, the gentleman at the door told me that they've had problems with the Halo 3 ones, and I shouldn't be surprised if the hard drive fries too. So, for all of you considering a 360, don't be shocked if there are problems. Just wanted to vent. Happy Gaming!

What was wrong with it? When I purchased my first 360 (back in May of 2006), I immediately got a red ring as soon as I turned it on. Reseating the I/O connector corrected that problem. The Elite that I recently purchased turned on without a hitch.

This is what I dont get....

Many people bought their 360s when it came out and some experienced the RROD recently.... Thats fine conisdering that the 360 has been in the market for 3 years plus.... But now people who just recently bought the 360 and getting RRODs.... Is it a bad batch of 360s... or did they think they improved on the internals, which caused the overheating issues....

I think Microsoft really needs to redesign this.. And do tests before claiming things that assume to be the fix...

PS3 hasn't had this problem... Looks like PS3 has jumped an obstacle...

Saw this article before. If you check the manufacture date on it, its dated 08-16-2007 which is not the 65nm CPU version. All 65nm CPU versions are built 08-24-2007 and after. I haven't actually read anything on the 65nm CPU's getting the red lights yet but if it did, I wouldn't be surprised since the GPU is the bigger problem and that is still 90nm.

For those that still want/need a 360.

Buy ANY Xbox 360 system from Future Shop and get a FREE Guitar Hero 2 bundle (game + guitar). Sweet deal if you don't have a system yet or if you want to split it with somebody. Not sure when the deal ends. I just saw this in an e-mail now so I believe it's for the week.

How long have you had it? Xbox is just another PC. If it overheats, I can see a few reasons, dust on the board/fan/processor dont allow the system to cool down properly, dont even touch parts with your fingers as the oil on them can damage components, exesessive dust can also cause a short as it conducts electricity. If its not dust, it could also be 360's FS FATX is fragmented thereby making a normal CSU work overtime as the system files/scatters over the platters and thus make processor overheat with defrag overhead to put up with. I also think WeatherB's comments are also possible as these processors get hot and the constant expansion and contraction of solder causes connections to break but if this was true then the thing wouldnt work. If its the HD find someone with the same model and image his drive with linux DD /Ghost / or whatever you like that will create a bit by bit copy of the drive. Drive doesnt have to be same make/model just at least have same LBA size or larger.

I've been back on the lookout for the new xbox with the falcon chips no luck as yet! Some of the lot 734+ have the old chips/cd drives in them. The trick is you have to look for the ones made by team FDOU and be 734+.

One question... When you send your xbox into ms, does ms send you a referb or a new one back?

I got a refurbed one manufactured in Aug 06'. It does have the new heatsink extension for the GPU.

Tokic_o, sometimes you can get red rings if your video cable is not plugged in correctly. Make sure all the connections are secured. Before I had the 3 red rings, my system started locking up randomly until it finally died out on me.

What happened to yours? Getting it still covered under warranty depends. Did they cut the seal when they opened it up to mod ? The mod only updates the software on the DVD ROM drive, so it may still be possible to un mod, nad get covered under warranty.

no need to flash back original firmware. Just make sure sticker is intact and there are no pry marks around. Either way, if its not working, just send it in. You have nothing to lose. Worst case scenario is they send you back your box.
