Welcome...

What's the estimate on repairs? Look like you need entire new front end (hood, bumper, head lights, fog lights, both fenders, windshield) as well as new air bags. Looks like it was in an offset frontal impact? Isn't that the worst kind of impact for bending the frame? Did you check for damage to the frame?

I will see when it is shipped over. I know what you mean, but I am going to have a budget of over 8 grande to fix it. Most parts are available aftermarket too.

Now people are scaring me.

Not meant to scare you, but you may have just bought a car you can use for parts, not a car to rebuild with parts.

Joe, line 801 please, Joe.

Now people are scaring me.

Not a matter of anyone tring to scare you. Its just one of those things. You cant just buy any car and rebuild it.

$10000 for a write off? lol Why would you buy it? If you wanted to waste money, you could have mailed me money.

Goodluck with whatever you do with it

$8,000 won't be enought to cover the extensive damage the car has taken

good luck with the car and welcome to the club, really no one is trying to scare you... for your sake i hope the car wasn't a write off... not all written off cars can be put back on the road... and those strut towers especially the one on the passenger side looks warped/kinked.... so you never actually saw the car?? just through pictures?? if thats the case... looks like the car could have some frame damage... the others are right.. you may have just bought yourself an $8000 parts car....

Good luck man, you've got a lot of work to do.

McGuyver_3
09-08-2007, 06:57 PM
i dont know if over 8G's will be enough because when my car got stolen, passenger side front got smacked up it costed 11500 to get it fixed. That was curbside damage.
You might need more money to fix it up but good luck with he rebuild and welcome
also looks like you gotHID headlights BIG bucks for those to lol

If you do feel like parting it out and the drivers side headlight is a xenon i will either trade you for mine or i will take it off your hands i have mine but the cutoff is not to my liking

why?... why?... why?... $USD7600 + cost of the repair (airbags, sensor, headlights, driveshafts, radiator etc. etc. ...) will add up so much...

the biz could have given you a better deal with a used /safer car or one of the members here is selling his car with the same color, in good condition and most importantly peace of mind driving it.....

with that kind of crash ill be surprised if the frame is not damage, it will never be the same again even if the mileage reads 9k on it...you will need alot of goodluck for your car to be road worthy again....

I know it's fun to take on projects, but if it can't be safetied, have fun with your tarmac racer with custom frame. non street legal.

When the car gets over here and you get the estimate done give me a shout I'll give you a great deal on your parts.

FYI, if the vehicle was written off there will be no warranty on it.

I have re-built a written off car in the past. But it wasn't damaged as bad as this one. There is a lot of work involved although I only had to spend money on parts not labour because it's what my father does for a living (he's a bodyman). The car turned out great but I also had to replace the tires and get it re-aligned. And from looking at the pictures of your 3. That will never ever be re-aligned back to oem specs. So, in other words you will always have uneven wear on your front tires. Although very slightly. Anyway, good luck on the re-build and have fun doing it if you are going to be doing the work yourself.

MattC is right. For 16g's or so plus taxes you could have gotten yourself a nice 3 without any worries.

That's alot of harsh statements for someone who was really happy initally.

Notorious, is there anyway you can back out of this? Is there anything about a "cooling off" period or anything like that?

if he paid by money rder he could go to the post office and void the money order or if by check make the check bounce a closed ebay account is not as bad as a car that cost just as much as a new one to buy used

I'm doing most of it myself besides the painting. I didn't buy the car my self I bought it through a company -- well I Know them personally -- and I Know about 3 body shops -- and i got a personal mechanic who does stuff I don't want to touch for really cheap. I also have hookups on parts -- I've found a front clip for this car for 1800 that is everything from the firewall to the bumper.

I just bought both air bags, control module and seat belts for $700. So that is a start.

It will be here tommorow so fingers crossed lol.

Thanks for some of the support -- and I really didn't need the people telling me I could of got an 04 or 05 for the same price --- yah like I could of gotten a golf cart in mint condition too for a quarter of the price I will end up dishing out.

well then good luck with the rebuild.
Out of curiosity does that mean the drivers side headlight will be available for sale if you say you found a front clip? If i am not mistaken the front clip comes with headlights. I would be really interested if you are willing to sell that headlight also the wiring harness to go with it

Just had a look at it. Seems to be a harder hit than I thought. The frame seems to be fine, but the upper rail is screwed up. I might have to go with the front clip -- which has only halogens lights. I'll have to buy the xenons seperately. The alternator is cracked, water pump is siezed, intake manifold is cracked, drive shaft, all the belts, a/c lines etc. -- I won't know if this thing will run until I get all this fixed.

The front clip should fix up the strut tower, the fire wall, and basically the entire front end. I'm gettin a lot of help so I will probably take pictures through the process.

Wow. Good Luck. Did you shop those photos around to autobody and mechanic shops or take someone from the industry before you bid... Just realize when you get into an accident like that, the car is meant to crumple and absorb the impact by twisting the medal frame, better the car take the energy that passing it on to the driver. Not always meant to be fixed up and repaired. Even with an older resale as mentioned in this thread, you'll have an easier time on resale with a car not in a major accident. All the best, make sure you post restoration photos in progress.

Ok, a couple of things now. I have the xenon housing (No motor module, no ballast, no bulbs) pretty much the lens is good condition, and the inner parts of it, but until you get to the back of it, its broken really badly. so the black mounting piece at the back is destoryed.

If this clip comes with bulbs for the HID's, I will be selling factory bulbs.

I also bought tein springs, so I will be selling the factory springs.

I will have an extra grill like the one pictured there, which is in good condition (maybe a little crack somewhere).

I might also have an extra computer (ECU).

Another thing is the front bumper I have has those foglight mounts (the grey circular things). I've seen some people with those cracked, so people might be interested.

I also have whatever is left over from the cracked alternator.

I will take pictures of these things and put em in the for sale section when I can.

ahhhh back from Ohio yesterday -- dropped off my clip today -- should finish up this car in about 2 weeks time. I hate driving an f450 cube truck for 6 hours and having to deal with bullshit from the border patrol.

It appears, if you're a British Citizen, you need an I94 (visa waiver) to get across, which meant dealing with an American ******* asking you every last detail on your visit. He was such a prick too. Then when comming back 6 hours later, having to deal with 5-6 questions on my package back there ... "what exactly you planning on doing with half a car?" lol taxes=$500

Yeah, so I found out that the damage to the car was too much to just replace the upper and lower rails, so I've decided to cut my car in half and weld on the front clip at the factory cut points. That way my car will be 100% aligned to oem specs. In fact, everything on the body will line up perfectly.

I just paid my mechanic to take out my engine, tranny, steering, suspension etc for about $260. The car is ready to be cut. I'm going to take a picture soon for you guys to look at how it's being done. Even I'm amazed at how well it's comming along.

Dinky things replaced:

Airbags, seatbelts, airbag control module, Intake manifold, alternator w/new bolts, water/coolant pump, tensioner, thermostat w/housing, serpantine belt, tranny/engine mount, outer right drive shaft, trannsmission pan, ECU computer anddd windshield.

The rest of the parts are on the clip! LOL
