If it can be shipped by USPS, it will be cheaper than any of the couriers out there.

I hate them.

$128 seems pretty high for the value of what you received.

I know custom fees are factored into that as well as PST and UPS's cut

If I have no choice, I only use UPS Express for this reason... The Express service already includes the brokerage fees, so you only have to pay the tax.

I only use USPS when I get my items shipped from the states. It takes long but I know I will only need to pay $5 customs fee along with whatever taxes. Never use UPS to ship your items from US to Canada, they're the worse.

What's the worst that can happen if you don't pay? Maybe if they see an outstanding balance the next shipment will be held until fee is paid?
I have outstanding DHL fees that I "forgot" to pay.

You really think that they can influence your credit rating?

You really think that they can influence your credit rating?
Any time you are late paying a bill or only pay a portion of it, it affects your credit rating. And if collections gets involved that's even worse.

Although it's sometimes hard for them to match up with your credit rating if the info on the package is limited or wrong (i.e., mispelled name or sent to your work address). *Hint*

Yep..they collect when it shows up at your door

Buying stuff off eBay or the US is ok providing they ship it USPS. On ebay some sellers will declare the goods with a lower value or as a gift= low or no collection at the door

Gonna put in a claim as one package was damaged...lets see how much I won't get back...:complain

I have outstanding DHL fees that I "forgot" to pay.

I had a shippment that was worth $3000

I got charged $1000 on fees

I wanted to send it back cause paying shipping again and fixing the bills would be cheaper then then $1000.

but the ****ed up part was, they said if I dont pay the $1000 they cant return my item, they had to send it to the crasher (they will destroy the item)

I am about to get screwed by UPS. Ordered something from the US, that is being shipped from Colorado and can only ship UPS. So I thought ok, I will self clear with UPS. Called UPS to set that up, point of entry is Windsor, unless I drive to Windsor to self clear, I have to pay the fees.

This happens all of the time. When I order from some of my suppliers I need to pay shipping, taxes etc.

Problem is, I have even lost sales to online companies since their prices are $10 cheaper on an item after shipping, when it shows up, the customer wishes they wouldnt have since it comes out to more in the long run :)

UPS is a piece of shit, never ship stuff UPS.

One time they tried to chrge me 50$ duty on a 15$ dvd.

And by the way, all you have to do is bitch on the phone to the managers and they CAN knock the price down. i got the duty down from $50 to $7.50.

They threatened me with that whole "oh well we have to destroy it we cant ship it back" and I basically said "so ****in destroy it then, i could buy another dvd and ship it USPS ground for less."

That made him change his tune.

I always try and deal local whenever possible. In this case, I was ordering a pair of skiboard boots that I could not find from a vendor in Canada. They are Rossignol boots, that have a hard shell, but a lot of flex, and do not have the forward leaning stance most traditional ski boots have.

Anyhow, package is due to arrive on Tuesday of next week. We shall see how much UPS tries to pillage me.

Only reason I don't like USPS is the lack of a tracking #.

USPS has tracking too depending on which method shipped. However their tracking system is not updated nearly as often as the courier services.

Yeah, sometimes you cant help it, or the deal is just THAT good. :)

Guys, it's funny to see how you guys complaining on UPS, they sucks. Peter, you got screwed too huh?

This is how they charged you:
1. Custom/Tax - Depending on your product value, usually it's only 1/3 of your C.O.D.
2. Handling Fee - What's that. They need to submit docs to custom to clear your product. Interestingly, they charged different amount according to different value. (Hey, do you think they really do extra work/doc for a $5K item compare to a $50item?)
3. Outport Fee - Don't ask me what it is, it's $10 and listed on UPS site.
4. Random Fee - You can find all that on UPS site.

What you do:
1. Whenever I got abused by UPS, I abused them back. First, DO NOT collect the item when the UPS guys @ your door. When he left, take the slip, and check on C.O.D.

2. If the C.O.D. is ridicious; flip it, call the UPS #. Ask them to BREAK DOWN the cost of C.O.D; they will do that.

3. Question them about the Handling Fee, shown that you are un-satisfy. They will tried their best to convience you it's necessary, and tell them you WHY you/or the shipper DOES NOT get notice ahead of time, since it's a FIXED fee. This is the Major point because, when you fill up all the papers and such, you need to declare the product value. Well, if I declare the value as $200; UPS shouldn't tell me the shipping fee is only $20 (forget about the size for now); and should said $20 + FIXED fee for $200 product.

4. Try your best to argue w/ them that the way they charged you are HIDDEN FEE, which should be disclosed AHEAD OF TIME, not when you received your product.

5. Speak w/ their manager if NO action taken. Their manager will tell you the same thing but if you go over and over again, they will give you a one time GOOD-WILL. Which is charge you Tax only, and no other stupid handling fee.

It usually took me 30-45mins in order to receive that good-will; but it's worth it. I don't make $60/hr so whatever I can save within is good. I've done that for the past 3 times with UPS when I can't avoid it, and it works, so it's not a one-time only thing I guess.

First UPS: High-Flow Cat for TSX
Product Value: $180
UPS C.O.D: $118 lol
Final Fee: $approx. 40 (SAVE $78~~!)

Second UPS: Mugen Grille for TSX
Product Value: $350
UPS C.O.D: $157 lol
Final Fee: $approx. $60 (SAVE $97~!!)

Recent UPS: 04 TSX ECU (used part)
Product Value: $300
UPS C.O.D: $89
Final Fee: $32 (SAVE $57~!!)

Got owned on Friday... Received a $60US package and got charged $39CAN for duty, heck $29 of that was UPS' own brokerage.

sounds like what happened to me. $250 package, $80 in fees. Of that $50 was UPS fee's and $30 was taxes. However, UPS did tell me, if I were to ship air, the $50 becomes $10.

Fedex will bill you later, amount TBD. Usually around $20, plus taxes. If they can ship fedex air, it might cost you slightly more upfront, but will cost less on the back end.
