Hello everyone. I just caught this article on the next gen Mazda3 and I am curious to get your opinion:

Should the mazda 3 get any bigger?
Should the engine displacement get bigger?

We have a spyshots thread somewhere down the forum , but as to your questions, no to both..

I don't think that the mazda3 should get any bigger. To be honest, I wouldn't want the 3 to get any bigger. I consider the 3 to be a big "small sedan".

Any bigger and it'll be too much of a mix between a small sedan and a real full sized sedan.

Also for the engine, I think a 2.5L engine would be way too gas hungry especially for a smaller car.

Basically I just think that the 3 shouldn't be climbing out of its class too much because at that point it has many other competitors. Also, in my opinion most importantly, the price of the 3 will go up, and the most attractive part of owning a mazda3 will be gone :P

The car is a good size, but could use a few refinements both in-cabin, and under the hood. Now that i've gone past the break-in period, my car is still drinking gas back like its going out of style.

I'm finding the fuel economy of my 2007 GT Hatch 5-speed is improving (just passed the 9000 km mark). For example, driving north on Friday in heavy traffic to Barrie then continuing for another 45 mins at 120-125 kph and home yesterday via back roads/partial highway I'm still above the 1/4 mark on the tank with 468 km on the odometer.
