Seriously. 1 day off isn't worth $900 to me, but I suppose it's the least he could do for us.

lol i suppose it costs him nothing either
1. liberals take a pay raise
2. they increase taxes so they can spend more and have a pay raise
3. they initiate a vacation day that will cost them nothing, and in turn, they get to have the vacation as well
this is a prime example of someone breaking the rule of
having your cake and eating it too lol
i'm just being extreme... lol but really i am in agreement that one day isin't going to solve the rest of this provinces problems.
for one, we have some serious infrastructure issues in southern ontario. i honestly don't see how a leading country like canada, with a world class city like toronto can have such terrible infrastructure... and urban planning...
we're going to eventualy run ourselves into the ground...

Finally, something to break up the first quarter of the year!
One thing that about the Ontario elections -
Oh, how the memory is short (or perhaps for some, they were just to young):
The NDP under Rae put Ontario in several billion (100 I think) in debt, during a recession - seemed to have forgotten that you need a dollar coming in to give a dollar out - any one here remember Rae Days?
PC afterward basically tried to privatize everything (i.e. 407) were they could to their friends in an attempt to get Ontario out of debt I guess. As much as I'd hate it - if they kept the 407, it could be helping generate more income for Ontario, not the private owners of the 407. I believe the LCBO was also on the block.
Liberals get stuck with the above and for some reason make promises they should have known they can't keep.
Wild Weasel put it best as your basically voting for the least damaging criminal (something to that effect).
Oh and regards to tax breaks - most voters it seems would vote in a party that will give the average Canadian say a $30 tax break/year though they'll either in the end pay more than that per year in user fees or equivalent loss of services.
As I've said before, just my $0.02 in a million $$$ world.

Sounds dorky, but still cool. Lucky you guys. :)
We actually had one extra holiday over here in BC - Remembrance Day in November.

That's the kicker... it's being made a big deal of yet all it does is bring us in line with the rest of the country. If he really wanted to put us ahead, he'd have given two days. As it stands, this is just something we should have had all along but he couldn't be bothered to do until he had an election on the line.

I have no reason to believe that any of the other parties would have given us anything more. They're all shady.
I'll take the free holiday thanks.
I think i'll be end up working on this day anyways. My company is too cheap to afford another long weekend! :complain

I've always looked at elections as a "reverse police line up." You go in and pick the guy you want to rob you.

I have NEVER understood why ALL Canadians don't get this day off :loco
I would like to attend the services as a show of respect to those that gave their life and fought for the very rights we have in this country now, and yet I can't because it goes on as a regular work day :complain
no wonder so many people take our rights and freedom for granted :bang

I disagree. I think the biggest argument AGAINST remembrance day as a holiday has to do with our schools. I think that having a remembrance day service take place in the schools gives the kids a chance to take notice of the day for what it is, rather than just being stoked about yet another day off.
I mean... do you take a moment on Victoria Day to honour the long-dead queen? What about the civic holiday in August, whatever-TF that is for.
I like having holidays to celebrate things, as there's a general good mood involved whether you celebrate whatever it is or not. Remembrance day is more of a day of reflection and while we celebrate what our veterans have done for us, we are also remembering their loss so it is not necessarily a big happy moment.

It's just a day off and it should NOT be only for bank and government employees unless everyone else gets it off too. It's not like they are the only ones who *might* recognize Remembrance day. It's the biggest BS scam holiday of all.

Are you suggesting that the only ones who recognize Remembrance Day are those who take it off as a holiday?
I'm arguing the opposite. I'm saying that it is better recognized by NOT having it as a holiday.

I'm not arguing against you, numbskull. :chuckle I'm saying basically the same thing. Either give it to everyone or no one.

The government doesn't give it to banks and gov't employees. The banks give it to bank employees and the gov't unions negotiated it for certain gov't employees (obviously excluding teachers, among perhaps others).
This fact has nothing to do with the government giving or not giving a holiday.

I didn't say the government gave it to anyone.

Yes! The sole reason why I voted for the Liberals! Free holiday = excuse to go shopping in the States.
And I really think Remeberance Day should also be a holiday. Give a day to the fallen solider and give back to the veterans. They have Veterans Day in the states to honour their soliders. I understand that schools have to honour and understand what happened but I believe it can be taught and honoured the day before just like they do with Easter & Christmas.
