installing alarm (not with remote starter) yourself?

ok, I read the thread Installing alarm/starter yourself? (Reload this Page Installing alarm/starter yourself?). It's highly recommended to ask a professional. But what about just an alarm without the remote start? have you done it yourself? any tip?
