Not sure of the cause ,as it is only the back tires but I suspect the shocks? possible alignment.?

Might be your struts, or maybe inconsistent tire deflation?

Tires are checked once a week.

not rotating frequently enough. ive noticed that at the recomended 32psi the tires sit slightly over inflater on the back and slightly under inflated on the front (my evidence being tire wear) and by rotating every at least ~15k should keep the wear on the tires even.

I have this same issue of my 6. The dealership can't think of anything they just told me that they see it a lot on hard driven RX-8's.
I'm thinking my shocks are too stiff (Koni's), alignment or tire belts have shifted.

What's the pressure kept at, and what are you using to check it with?

Generally, it's when the tire doesn't have enough air so the middle of the tread sinks in a bit. The symptom is more wear around both corners of the tire and less around the middle.

No, cupping is when each tread block is wearing differently, so they end up with different heights radially around the tire. When driving, the tire is noisy because of the different heights.
Sometimes looks like someone took a sharp spoon to each tread block. They are cupped in.

Just had the alignment checked and everything is in the green . ??? So I guess a letter off to mazda to ask just what the hell is the cause? It is only on the back and only on the inside of the tires . They suggested I can change it a little but it would essentially be out of spec and they would only do it if I gave to go ahead as they cannot do without my permission.

Yup, mine too. Only the inside blocks are doing it, only on the rear.

my winters have done this. err.. should i say i did this to my winters. exactly what was mentioned earlier its from driving the tires hard. what happens is if you push your tires hard into a corner or brake hard the tire treads are going to shift and lean over (this is known as slip). because the tread blocks are bent over they're gonna wear more on one side or one tread block more as the rubber is rubbed against the pavement due to the inconsistent heights in tread.
in my case my tread is different heights from sipe to sipe on one tread block (blizzaks) depending on your tread pattern and how the tire reacts to various forces the wear can differ slightly style to style.

Just a thought, but would a camber kit help even if the car is not lowered? What would be the pros and cons of this?
