Hey guys...i'll be doing my first brake pad/rotor replacement this weekend but I have one last newbie question...but since these are brakes we're talking about I'm willing to ask what might be dumb questions in the name of safety.

I picked up my new rotors and pads from MOT last weekend and when I opened up one of the rotor boxes, I found the rotor wrapped in a bag and soaked in oil to prevent corrosion. Before I install the rotors I obviously must clean them...so my question is...with what?

I picked up a can of brake cleaner from Canadian Tire this weekend...will that work? It says not to use it on any friction surface so I didn't think that would be appropriate.

What do you guys think?

Yep, the brake cleaner will make short work of the oil on the rotors. You've got that right. The pads are the friction surfaces you don't want to spray it on. Spray down the rotors and then wipe them dry.

Cool...thanks for the confirmation! In my mind I considered both the pads and the rotors to be the friction surfaces.
