View Full Version : What Carbon Fiber Parts...

would you like to see made?

This post really doesnt fit in interior or exterior.... so I put it here :)

I have a local source that can make us almost any part we would like out of Carbon Fiber. Prices are reasonable too http://www.fmvperformance.com/forum_items/Smileys/default/icon_smile.gif My car could be used for molds etc, so thats not an issue.

In order to make parts, there needs to be an interest. Enough to make a specific part. 5-10 units would be fine I think.

Some ideas
Carbon Fiber Hatch and Sedan Grilles
Carbon Fiber Engine Cover
Carbon Fiber Coolant resevior cover
Carbon Fiber Interior kit (Window Covers, dash strip)

What is it that you are looking for? keep in mind something that will fit on all makes and models of Mazda3 would be easier to get a lot of interest in http://www.fmvperformance.com/forum_items/Smileys/default/icon_smile.gif

Thanks
John

midnightfxgt
11-22-2007, 11:25 AM
I would need a lip in order to have that done :)

Bubbs - I see the guy today, and have some extra switch panels, so I can ask about a full replacement :)

Thanks

OK.. Thanks For the interest guys!

I think I have a general idea of what people are looking for.

I stopped by the shop tonight, just to see some of the work, and drop my grille off. All I can say is WOW. This guy does some VERY VERY nice work. Everything from overlays to injection molding.

BAD NEWS - I dont think replacement Window Switch covers, and dash strip can be done. This is due to the intricate underside, and how it is pressure fitted :(

GOOD NEWS - I can have permanent overlays made. Let me explain. A set of switch covers will be taken, and will be covered with Carbon Fiber etc. This process bonds the CF to the top. It is almost impossible to tell that this is an overlay. You would have no idea, unless looking under the cover! And it remains OEM fit and finish :)

I will see if I can have a sample made up in the near future (too much on the go for the next couple weeks) and will post some pics. But in order to get it done, I will need to Gauge Some interest... stay tuned for that thread :)

Thanks
John

oh, so kinda like that mazda6 at importfest then eh?
with the full CF body?

so if we want say, window switch covers, do we have to lend our current ones until they are made???

(p.s. 1000 posts!!! woohoo!!!)

midnightfxgt

Well, none of this is finalized..... but here is what I am thinking....

I have an extra set of switch covers. And I think Joe can get the piano black trim cheap, so I dont mind picking that up.

I will have a set done for myself (the work is amazing!), and then have him do my spare set also. Once my spare set is done, I can sell them, and take your stockers, and have them done, etc etc. Sell the CF ones, and take your "core" :)

Thanks
John

Should also mention that the overlay is impossible to tell from a 100% CF piece. This is not a cover that sticks on like a cheapo eBay kit. You will know when I show the pics, but it may take some time.

I hear that. I am super picky about that too. Its where you spend all your time :)

I was honestly blown away with these. Maybe I will start a GI thread. See who is interested, and talk about price etc. He is somewhat flexible on price as long as a decent interest is there.

Is the CF dash strip a straight up OEM replacement? If so I would be interested in the strip and window switch covers (if the price is right).

midnightfxgt
11-27-2007, 12:39 PM
It would be a wrapped OEM piece. However, I assure you the quality is top notch, and will NOT look like an overlay, or stick on eBay peice. When mine get done this winter, pics will be up

-John

Caz

So the Dash strip would be the same as the switch covers then.
Do you have a ball park price? Switch covers and Dash strip?

I hate the fake OEM CF!!!!!

midnightfxgt
11-27-2007, 01:36 PM
I have no idea on price yet. I would assume under $250. Which is cheaper than the OEM replacement coloured ones.

Any updates to when you will have samples?

I need to get a dash strip.... Thanks Unoriginal, but I need to have a spare set or two to use as "cores" :)

Joe is going to see if he can snag one for a good price for me... if not, I will just buy one ;)

What about the shifter cover on the Auto? I just figured it would go along with the rest of the CF interior. Just a thought.
