yes!
i picked up my sister from her friends house last night at 11ish. and on our way home, i made a stop in a snowy, empty parking lot.
it was quiet funny, cuz while i was drifting, me and her where having a really calm conversation. i found it amusing.
unfortunately, i think im going to be the one who has to shovel/snowblower the driveway.....
*shivvers from thought of cold*

lol, i agree with bubbs, its fun to watch ppl slide all over the place.
and thats what i love about standard tranny's, if you cant get any traction in 1st gear, just put it into second. its a lower gear, so its harder to lose traction. its only saved my about a million times now lol.
also, i just shoveled my driveway. wow, wat a waste of time that was. i started in my backyard, and made my way forward. by the time i finished at the sidewalk, my backyard was already covered in about an inch of snow.
then i dusted my car off in case i have to go somewhere later, agian, a big waste of time.

wow, it took me ~10 minutes just to get out of my driveway!!!
lets see, i was able to slowly make it to the curb, where the trouble happened.
i had 2 wheels on the road, and 2 still on my driveway. it was about 10 minutes of digging out the snow under my car, and getting back in, and driving out as far as i could. usually about 6 inches at a time.
FINALLY, i got out, and very slowly made it to food basics for some grocerys....
it was fun nonetheless tho.
oh, you know whats fun?? U-turns on a snowy road. turn the wheel, and yank the e-brake. :chuckle

Must have been a little over 2 feet of snow out there. :(
I spent a few hours shovelling my driveway... and then my shovel broke!!!
Drove to Home Depot... bought a new one... came home and finished the driveway.
THEN the freakin' plow came by!! Hmph!!

I just made my home commute from Newmarket to Markam. it was next to 0% visibility on the 404. If you don't have an emergency outside, then don't drive! My car has normal ride clearance and I was struggling! The snowtechs are awesome though. But even with good tires there are still a lot idiot drivers to take the better ones out!

I live in a court so there’s about 7 feet of snow piled up in the center. One of my neighbor apparently didn't see it and drove her van right into it and got stuck. It's all white so if you're not paying attention it can happen.

I am slammed to the ground, so could not get anywhere in this weather...been at home all of Sunday and my car is well a giant snowball outside...meanwhile the other Mazda3 (also know as someones favorite car on this board)has not touched or seen the snow at all...
all though I did drive on Saturday night and got around fine, minus the Don Mills area where it sorta got stuck...car was to low and attempted to negotiate an unplowed area
but when I got on the 401 West, highway was not to bad....and when I got to Mississauga, i just entered the Storm on Sunday morning around 12:30am...
none the less was plowing but nothing dangerous, snow tires and driving according to conditions helped...yet fun to drift a bit in certain sections of the west end..

Got that from Birchmount rd and Danforth rd today around 11am. I went out today to shovel our old neighbour's sidewalk, normally a short 10 minute walk turned into about 25 minutes walking in the knee-high snow. Poor old woman was so worried, she's 96 now and still tires to shovel her own snow. Other than that I was helping people get out of driveways and side streets.
One guy I helped out was really really REALLY stuck. He explained to me that he's from India and never even seen snow in his life before this winter. I told him what to do and got him out and told him how to avoid being stuck in the future. Really thankful guy.
And about building parking garages...ours has a really steep slope to get out from the basement, and while I was getting my winter work boots from my car I saw a car leaving, then going up the hill I started hearing his tires spin. Well, the door closed and he started sliding back with the wheels spinning like crazy then a big BANG. I went around the corner to look and the guy's trunk was through the garage door...ouch... When they got out of the car the dude's little girl said "Daddy, why did you back up into the door?" That almost made me burst out laughing, even though I felt really bad.
Another fun thing today to watch... I live right at Birchmount and St Clair, and just north of St Clair, Birchmount has a pretty steep hill. A big rig with no trailer was stuck at the top with a TTC bus stuck behind it across both lanes, and two of those huge snow plows stuck facing the wrong way on the other side.

Arg...on the AWD subject... I hate it when people with huge 4x4 trucks and AWD cars think they can go speeding by in snow or ice and think they will be fine. Yes, they get added traction for acceleration, but what most fail to remember is that ALL cars have 4 wheels to stop. Braking statistics do not change from FWD to RWD to AWD (not counting engine braking). I still firmly believe FWD is best for snow. AWD and RWD can both spin out, AWD is much better to avoid being stuck, but also get a false sense of traction. FWD won't spin out so easily around corners, and you still realize just how slippery it is.
Anyway, that's just my opinion and mini-rant on oblivious AWD and 4x4 drivers.

Was at the airport this morning dropping off a friend, not bad 35mins or so from my house (WC&dundas)to the airport. Spent most of my day in and out of the house shoveling my driveway.. I didn't attempt to do it all at once since I wasn't going anywhere anyhow.
Suppose to be -9 tomorrow and feel like -18. Dress warm.

Ya , I thought about shoveling before I went out but I was in a bit of a rush.
I was afraid if I left my car on the street to shovel, a snow plow might come. So I took the chance and got stuck on the driveway which is probably better than being trapped on the street when the snow plow blocks in your car !
I still can't believe I didn't get stuck in the middle of the street on my way out , which happened the last snow storm we had.
I got around fine today with a low RWD car. The Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds cut through the snow with no problems at all!

the worst road condition i ever drive on. it took 2 hrs for me to go from Guelph to Vaughan on Sat night, thing was fine till i hit Mississauga, the road was flippery, traffic was flowing @ 40km/h on 401. my mazda3 stuck in my gf house' driveway the whole day Sunday with 3 feets of snow all around it. Had to go shopping with her on her brother's Murano, it could make out/in the driveway. Drove back to Guelph Sunday night, still flippery road. But at last i made it home.

Unfortunately, by law, its expected that all parked vehicles be cleared from the streets for snow-removal....so if there was damage there is no recourse. The onus is on the vehicle owner as the vehicle is classified as abandoned...they have the power to also tow the vehicle, impound it and it would cost you quite a bit to get it back...just FYI.

I'm surprised that Toronto doesn't have a parking ban like they do in Winnipeg. In the winter, especially after a huge snowfall, you are not allowed to park on certain streets between 12 midnite and 6 am. This allows the snowplows to properly clean the streets. If a car is parked, they will get a ticket and may be towed.

They do.....But only on main streets such as Danforth Rd, Vic Prk, Yonge etc, etc; they can tow the vehicle away, but I guess they just don't have the resources. On back streets like I mentioned before the onus is on the vehicle owner to not have their vehicle on the road during snow storms such as the one we just experienced. But again resources i.e; Tow trucks are pretty busy taking care of other things to be dealing with illegally parked vehicles. They tend to focus on getting vehicles off the hiways.

True, but I just heard the guy in charge of snow removal in Toronto say, that in those cases they must return to the same road again to remove the pile left behind eventually, thus costing you and me and all tax payers more money!

Yep. And I saw them doing exactly that last night on my street. There had been a van parked on the road and they ploughed it right in. I wish I'd been around to see the owner dig it out. :D Then, later on, a pickup with a plough came along to clean up the area where it had been.
But what's the solution? There's no way it could have been towed once the plough went by and you can't expect the plough driver to stop and give tickets. I can only hope that the guy in the pickup would have had that authority if it had still been there when he came to do the cleanup.

Well I have put some thought into this exact problem, don't ask,I guess I'm just anal or bored...and I don't know if its a perfect solution but here goes; Say they have a schedule, they know approx what time they will do your street, they have one guy driving around the streets that are scheduled in the next hour or 2, now if there is a car or cars parked illegally, than he calls for a tow truck(s) to tow the vehicle(s)...the poor sod(s) who own(s) the vehicle(s) would have to pay the towing and storage fee, plus a ticket which funds would help pay for the guy whose doing the spotting....Now people might think thats a little cruel and maybe it is, so lets say this spotter has access to information such as the police with a computer in the vehicle where he can take the plate number(s), call the owner(s) and warn them, that their vehicle(s) will be towed if not moved in the next hour.Hopefully the owner is home, takes the call, goes out moves the car long enough for the plow to do its job and parks back in his spot again....he might be out some sleep but he's not out a shitload of money. It all sounds nice but I don't know if its feasible.
