I just picked up one last night at BB for $149

worked great rigth out of the box, but since then, after I shut it down and try to start it again, I get a blank screen. until I hit the re-set button. then it starts up fine again.

I already updated the software and charged it fully.

I'm thinking I'll just have to take it back, although this was the last one in the store so I'll have to wait for a new unit for god knows how long :bang

I was wondering if anyone else happened to have this unit and experiencing the same problem?

once it's on.. it works perfectly

I don't have any first hand experience with TomTom but I did some research on it when I was in the market for GPS (a year ago - I ended up buying Garmin Nuvi 350). I found many reports of malfunctions with TomTom - similar to what you describe.

I got one from Staples about a week ago, but have found that the directions and its functionality was awkward. I opted for the LG GPS unit from FS boxing day instead.

found a bunch of the same complaints of some forums.. TomTom apparently knew it was a bad batch and shipped them out anyways :loco

I'll be taking it back to Best Buy for sure

Any GPS that tells me to keep left and turn right at the next intersection isn't up to snuff in my books... too high a standard? :P

I have a Tom Tom 3rd editon that I bought at tigerdirect just before the xmas season. After driving to buffalo and back with it I realized it was a pretty decent system for the $$$. Sometimes the directions sound confusing (e.g. keep left and turn right) but in most cases that is what needs to be done to get where you need to be. Before you return the unit (if its not too late) be sure to update the firmware and the maps. Go for ride again and see if there is a difference.

ya I updated the maps and firmware already...

Best Buy is pretty good about returns/exchanges... so I'm gonna wait for them to get a new shipment in

I returned my unit in favour of another unit around the same price range that has text-to-speech and expandable SD slot.
