hey everyone
If i was to buy a mazdaspeed3 exhaust what would i have to do to make it fit on my sedan? i am sure that the piping from the speed and the regular 3 are different. would i be able to just attach the speed exhaust or would i have to have a converter pipe in there of some form?
thanks

I think you'll have to weld another piece to extend the pipe? since the sedan exhaust is longer then the speed3.

i understand i have to extend it but will i need to have eg stock pipe size 1 3/4inch to like a 2 inch pipe conversion or something? Or will i just need an extension?

Not sure if this helps since I didn't install my exhaust, but here's how mine looks like where it was extended.

ooo thank you for the pic, so the exhaust fits perfectly with all the mounts but lacks in overal length going to the bumper? You didnt need to change pipe size where the header met the resinator?

I know the flange doesn't fit. I'm not quite sure how it actually welds up. I'll try to get a few more pics near the header tomorrow.

When I got mine installed, the installer just cut the cat off the stock exhaust and welded it to the new pipe. He kind of made his own converter by shoving the pipes together. :)

Sorry, didn't have time to get pics of them today. I hope your not in a rush to see it. I'll try to get pics asap.

im not really in a rush but i would like to know because when i do go for it then i will have to know so i can tell them what i need to make it work. Does anyone by chance have any dimensions? like stock mz3 pipe to mzs3 pipe?
thanks

I think it's 2" to 2.75"... Why not take it to Street Performance? Jimmy's done quite a bit of installations on Mazda's already.

because the guy I an buying the exhaust from may be making me the cupplink as a part of the purchase price

Oh okay. You may not need the coupler depending on the installer.

Well, I tried to take some pics. First pic is of the stock cat. Second pic is where the weld is, connecting the ms3 resonator to the stock piping. You can clearly see which one is the stock exhaust and which one is the ms3 exhaust by the rust :D

I got a couple more pics, but these two show the weld the clearest.

thank you so much for the picks so from my understanding you cut the stock piping from the point where it meets the stock cat and welded it right in to the ms cat? Am i understanding this correctly?

The MS exhaust does not have a cat on it. You need to cut the stock exhaust right after the cat and cut the MS exhaust right after the mounting flange, then weld together.

and the mazdaspeed3?
I am pretty sure that the 3 has a 2 inch exhaust pipe. i will figure that out tommorro
hey whitespeed do you think you could get me a measurement on the outside diamater of the pipe?

From what I remember, it starts out at like 2.25 and gets to about 2.75 near the tip. I'm not quite sure about the numbers exactly, but I remember it getting larger as it goes on.

thanks to both
i need to know the begining because i think i may just get a clamp cuppler from stock size to ms size so i want to be sure on what size it is.elding it on seems to be the best option but if it ever has to be removed then you have to cut and reweld the exhaust which will lead to be a bit of a hassle

i have one already just needed to find out the pipe sizing but i found a shop that will install my exhaust for me for a decent price. I am concerned that if i clamp the exhaust i will have a leak and considering my car is a daily driver id rather weld it.
