Yeah, sounds weird.
I have a '07 speed 3 and I just noticed yesterday that the exhaust tip is starting to get a little carbon "scoring" on it. Probably because I'm not cleaning it as much in this crappy weather.
Is there a way to clean this up? If so, what's the best product?
Cheers
Well, when its cold I just polisher a bit with a rag.
Once in the odd while I use my rim wax on it as well.

Hi,
Thanks for the fast response. I've tried just wiping the tip (ew!) but it's not coming clean. I hope the things not corroded already and the carbon is just being pesky. Any ideas?
Cheers.
Coke.... CLR? Coke usually works but is a pain to work with. Its just something you're gonna have to live with only the outer piece of the tip is stainless.

- Clean it with dishwashing detergent and water, then dry it off.
- Take some metal polish with a terry or microfiber cloth and rub it in until the polish turns black. Repeat until you achieve results that you are happy with.
- Clean it again with dishwashing detergent and dry it off.
- Apply some wax or something to keep it protected. If you use a polish like Meguiar's NXT that has protection already in it, you do not have to clean it again with dishwashing detergent.
Hope that helps.
There ya go, this guy knows!!!!!!
+1...not in this weather the salt just bakes on. I clean in the summer :)

Ah, I can leave it to the summer and clean it then? That's good to know. I just wanted to avoid permanent damage.
Yeah, maybe I'm getting a bit carried away, but I love my car. :)

For cleaning, restoring and polishing the metal. I purchased a can of Silvo...buffed in a couple of coats and the stuff works great, tip looks like new.

My Magnaflow gets really black too. When it gets really bad, I just get some snow and and then wipe it with a cloth, lol.

Honestly try this rare product found in Motorsport shops called Autosol Metal Polish. Best 1 step process that leaves no streaks and cleans like a charm. Best 12$ ever spent!

Look it up if you don't believe me! I'm gonna stock up on them while I can find some :P

I use 0000 grade steel wool... seems scary but it works great. will not scratch the metal at all.
