View Full Version : Help With HID's
I went to go get my HID's installed and the mechcanic who did it said there was a problem with them plusing is I took it off the Auto setting, so fine whatever i dont usually take it off that anyways. My car is usally parked in the garage so when i start the car its automatically starts in "night mode" cuz of the dark garage. When i pull outside i see them pulsating until the light sensor kicks in and makes it fully "day mode". I know this is really bad for your HID does anyone know how to make it stop? Im thinking of just putting a manual switch in so i can turn them on and off when i want. Wat i am doing now is before i pull outa the garage i have my ebrake up one click and turn the setting to off until i am fully outside, i dont think they pulse when i do this. Could you guys help me out.
Thanks,
Craig

Search DRL bypass. Thats what you need. And so you know, proper grammar makes posts so much easier to read and understand...
i think ima just use the switch, i dont mind flicking them on and off cuz i doubt you'll forget to turn them on at night lol, i think ill have the guy put my fogs as DRL's too
As for grammar, ill try lol im usually in a rush
Your problem is that when its on auto during the day the HIDs are running as DRLs. In this mode they only get a percentage of the power they get on full. This would cause the pulsing. I would suggest setting the fogs as your DRLs using the independent fog mod.

I just turn mine off but try this...
While your headlights are in auto mode, turn the key to one click before on (accessory I think). The headlights should come on. Turn it back to off and then start the car. I found this causes a delay and the lights stay off for a couple seconds till the car starts, then they click on.

If you are going to just use a switch, maybe you'll want your mechanic to re-wire the power source directly to the battery with a fuse. Cause the way you have it, if it's not dark enough for the Auto setting to turn on the headlights, the lights are still going to pulse because of the DRLs. Look on the forums to see how people have wired up their HIDs.

take the power wire of both ballasts and splice them in to the amber lights. thw wire you are looking for is orange with blue stripe. or get a relay and hook it up that way and for drls do the indy fog mod
use a relay or do the DRL bypass mod.
and, when you go into the garage, take the lights off auto. turning on the HIDs for 30 secs while you back out is gonna kill the balasts

thats not entirely tru because my moms murano has auto lights from factory with factoryt xenons and when we drive through a tunnel or bridge they turn on and off and same with all the cars at my work. As long as you dont flicker your lights you should be fine

I have auto lights and hids on my m3 no problems at all. You just have to bypass them correctly, your HIDs should always be on, since it uses the same bulb as DRLs.

sorry dont mean to insult you but you hooked them up the sucker way. people install hids with a relay or through the ambers and use either one or more of these methods
no drls
angel eyes
indy fog mod
amber corners
highbeams (lengthy mod to instal but totally worth it)
What im probably going to do is put a lower voltage rely in so they always run then just add a switch so i can turn them on and off

atleast thats the easiest way to do it, and still works fine with no hassle-bypassing through relay
