not sure what to think of this one

doesn't look half bad in the pics

http://www.toronto-subaru-club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102306&page=14&highlight=bedliner

it would be pretty durable

but I wonder about a couple things

1. The weight this would add to the car, as that stuff is pretty thick
2. how this would hold up over time with the sun and fading, and in a cold weather climate like ours

I'm not sure what to make of it really. Fuzy looking like the Woolly Mammoth. I'm going to have to pass on this one.

Weird.

I know a few car companies are going to start rolling out matte-finish paint jobs. I don't really see it catching on though.

I have a buddy who is in the Subaru club with this guy. He actually said it didn't look too bad in person and it's really easy to touch up since it doesn't show any overspray.

I personally would never do it.

I would assume that the snow would stick to it like glue.

Maybe you could spray a car with teflon.. now that would be slick.. no pun, okay maybe a little one,

i think in person the car wouldn't look too great. u can see the spray lines in the photos and i'm sure in person it looks worse.

Why?

Thats was my question.

i've seen a similar WRX on Street Tuner Challenge on SPEED TV. actually, if you put racing logos on it & throw huge black wheels on it, it passes.

i remember this guy!
actually his car looks really nice in person. the flat back fits the car nicely and he did a nice job painting it.

The tigerstriping is ewwwww, it's almost unavoidable in a flat colour. You can see it best on the hood, the tiger stripes show too much from the overlaping.... fail

Think of it this way if you get a scratch just touch it up.

Wasn't there one of these at Importfest2007? I was thinking the car was just primed and waiting for a nice coat of pearlescent lava orange

This thing would be like an oven in summer.... a pain in the ass to clean in winter.....

But at least it's bomb proof! hahaha

Wait a second...

What kinda paint do they put on stealth bombers, to avoid radar?

I WANT THAT PAINT!

I would assume that car is pretty durable...just think of the prevention of stone chips!

I used to have a mechanic that shared a garage with a line-x installer. (similar to rhino lining etc). He had sprayed a cinder block chunk with the stuff days/weeks before and invited me to try and beat the snot out of it. I kept chucking it up in the air and letting it land on pavement, rocks etc. God damn is that stuff ever strong. make it thick and it's improbable that road debris will ever mess up the finish, or ever rust, ever.

Now dude with the suby probably had a theft/accident recovery that needed paint, and didn't want to worry about it ever again.
I think that it looks ok, but it would look MUCH better accompanied with a carbon fibre lip and hood, and other elements. Wing too maybe.

I'm thinking its a great idea, and not to expensive.....but weight?

EvilDeadFan
02-15-2008, 08:56 AM
I don't think the weight difference would be too dramatic. I think the extra protection would far outweigh any worries about weight.

It actually looks pretty good in person. I like the look and as some have said before, you don't have to worry about stone chips. Throw away that 3M film! Now if only they made lava orange bed liner :P

Hmm..I wonder how much this would cost.

I have a supplier that carries spray-on bedliner.

Rattle can? I was a fan of the flat black, but now its a little overdone.

Well if you think flat black is over done this is just wrong...

baddest car!!!!!!
paint is sick i would fully do that to my 3 if i was in the whole racing seen...

If it were applied perfectly even, it would be somewhat decent, but you can definitely see the spray pattern on the hood which makes the car look cheap. I too wonder why the owner would do this, given how nice OEM paint looks (unless it was vandalized, etc).

Weird.

I know a few car companies are going to start rolling out matte-finish paint jobs. I don't really see it catching on though.

i saw a matte black BENZ at the Edmonton Motor show last weekend. I thought it was pretty neat, but i dont see many people buying into it.

I think it would look better with different rims

hum flat black looks good but I agree with the application. If it was applied nice and smoth and even that would be nice. The nice thing as mention would be the no longer having to worry about scratches or even dents. Hell you could fix it all at home your self.

Also I think you can get that more colors then that.

Not true, buddy of mine got his truck sprayed in the bed with this stuff and the snow slides right off like a non stick frying pan! Pretty cool actually jstu dont like it on an entire car... i can see it being useful if say you were going to a derest to rally the car constantly ...but not if ur driving in the GTA lol

Snow wouldn't stick on most days - the sun would heat up the body and the snow would slide off.
