Footwell lights Install

I am looking to install some led lights in the footwell (the pictures I have seen on this forum look amazing).

Most people seem to tap into the lighter for hook-up. My question is, can they be tapped into the dome light instead? If so, can somebody explain how. Basically I would like the footwell lights to come on only when I open the door (just like the dome lights). Any help would be much obliged.

Its probably easier to tap your map lights for power, run it down the a pillar, to your footwell.

Now that's a good idea. The led strips would come on when you open the doors and when you turn your map lights on.

I would prefer them to be on always so I think I would tap the cigarette lighter.

Add a two-pole-two-throw switch to the setup and you can have both !!
