I normally don't jump on a new product bandwagon, but check this out:

Here's the thread in Mazda3Forums:

Pretty neat, huh? I'm itching to see dyno numbers...

At least you get to keep the fly-by-wire throttle body unlike the Cosworth. I'd like to see the numbers with it too.

don't know about dyno#'s but on my previous 3 (auto..haha!), i replaced the stock intake manifold w/ headers (Vibrant) and noticed a pretty substantial power improvement, esp.in the 4-5K powerband when drivin in 'manumatic'. costly, but next to doin the CBE/TBE, best power gains, IMO

? This is a new intake manifold. I think you are talking about your exhaust manifold?

You can use the cosworth with the drive by wire TB as well. Just have to drill and tap a hole.

I really wonder how much is gained, because we will always have the restriction of the drive by wire throttle body.

does anyone know if Weapon R is a chinese company, or true Japanese (i know how chinese love to copy the japanese), or american?

i would trust the quality/R&D of cosworth anyday...but i know that manifold gives problems of its own too because it was more designed for the focus..

i know they're based in San Fran, but not 100% if they fab their products there though.

Is anyone else concerned that the manifold is made of sheet metal as opposed to a cast item like the cosworth?

I'm not particularly worried about the sheet metal vs. cast construction. A lot of aftermarket IM's for other motors are made from sheet metal with no ill effects (2JZGTE's and 4G63's come to mind). Granted, the Cosworth IM is probably a better engineered and executed product, but I'm gonna withhold judgement until I see some numbers.

very interesting.

but what will be more interesting is the price and hp increase is posted.
but im going to guess around $400-$600, and about 15-20 hp increase.

I was reading through the post and a few people mentioned $550

my only thing is....if you are involved in a frontal accident, that thing is probably gonna be the first to go right? Especially since made of sheet metal.

I'd surmise that the first thing to go would be the bumper. Then the airbags. In which case the intake manifold would be one of the last things I'd worry about. =)

The WR IM is $550 shipped (haven't ask how much shipped to TO).

WRLEO said its already in production.

i'd like to see a few members try it out first before i decide. It surely don't look as good as the cosworth in design (aesthetically) and quality, but at a $300 savings, that's hard to pass.

I want to see what the gains are, how much problem to install, and how much problems post install.

Are you referring to the electronics or the the physical restrictions through the TB? Several people have cleaned up the airflow through them.... claim about a 4hp increase.

4hp? Is that really worth the hassle and price? Thats kinda iffy...

Note I was talking about TB cleanup, not the header that this thread is discussing.

If we talk about the TB much more I suspect we should start a new thread...
