View Full Version : Let the Powdercoating - & Spring - Begin

REZXPERT

startin up the powdercoating process tomorrow. having the stock rims (&weights) removed from the tires, powerwashing them, and getting them sandblasted. I spoke to Quy (Quy's Powdercoating, Brampton) again and he reaffirmed sandblasting for relatively new wheels IF you're doing two coats or more (ie, powdercoat + clearcoat) which i'm doing. haven't decided on an exact colour but i'm leaning towards a "metallic" black now. anyways, i'll keep you posted. once i get them back (a week or two i'm hoping), they're being installed ASAP. i know it's still early but i'm moving down the street from work this week and investing in snowshoes:bana2

pics to follow.

looking forward to seeing what you get done up.

i'll most likely go black too in a month or so.

i'm deciding between two places now because i'm gonna definitely get the sandblast done

most likely gonna go with total inspec in milton
or beyers bush in sauga

i just hope they have the color i want.

i want a glossy black or semi gloss black

joe, you gonna get them blasted?

yes sir. i can probably save a couple of hundred bucks by doing one coat only (w/o clearcoat) but i wouldn't compromise quality on rims.

man, black would look mint on your red ride.

hrmnnn

WW- hopefully that's not the case =( gonna get a mirror/glossy look so hopefully it doesn't look like a can of paint was just dumped onto it lol. it won't be going matte... i think true red is too "shiny" and "bright" of a color to go with a matte look...

UU - sandblasting is going to cost me about 10-15 bucks if i do it in milton.
total in spec said they would drop it off at the sandblasters across the street and the lady there would be happy to do it for 10-15 a wheel.
then total in spec will charge me about $50 a wheel.
So in essence i'll pay about 275-325 for the whole ordeal.
or buyers bush will charge me $75/wheel for sandblast AND powdercoat... therefore $300 flat...

so essentially same thing

haha UU if you see any 'glossy/mirro' black rims powdercoated on a true red let me know lol

today: tires dismounted from rims, $30/set, KalTire, Whitby. dropped off my stock wheels for sandblasting @Blastal in Brampton - $50/ea, should be ready in a few days. saw Quy @ Quy's coating before that to choose my powdercoat colour: black base w/ metallic silver coat & clear coat - $250, as advertised on another thread. hope it was the right choice..... and hope the quality is 100%. earmarking easter weekend - snow or not - for the install & painting the calipers red too.

you're right, $50/pop is pricey but these guys have done major contract work around the city so i'd rather pay more & leave it in experienced hands. besides, Quy threatened me if i came back w/ rims not finished w/ FINE sand.... which helps the powdercoat take better. keep that in mind if you're getting sandblasting done to your rims.
