That's too nice and clean for winter. Is that the model that's faster than the 2.3L Mz3?

Major wheel gap!

Hahaha, yeah tell me about it. It's a 2.4, if its faster than the 3 or not, I'm not sure.

OOOO a new matrix, nice....took out a 06 for a test spin before getting my MZ3. Hopefully they did a update in the interior as I found it a little too plasticy(?)

Yeah, the dash and doors are similar in material to the 3. Had an 07, loving this so much more.

I like the new look, how's it drive?

Definitly like it better than the corolla, although I'm still not a fan.

I like it better then the rolla for sure! I think what bugs me most is the fog surround and those large indentations on the front bumper.

Drives just like my 3 IMO, a great drive in comparison to the old Matrix.

From what I've been reading, its the same engine as the Scion tC which has Turbo kits available, not too sure if its applicable yet, will have to do more reading up on it. But don't trade your speed in, the styling on the speed overall is nicer I believe but the wifey didn't want two 3's.

Its actually the same engine as the original 02 inline 4 camry. I'm pretty sure is faster then the 3 not because its 100cc more but 160lb torque at 4000rpm. The XR is nice and that is about the same price or maybe cheaper but the XRS is 3k more then the 3.

i remember dealers sold TRD stuff like a bolton super and turbo charger.

but of course, its ridiculously expensive.

nice car... the rear looks like the old subby impreza hatch. i wonder if now that toyota owns a stake of subby if that is the old impreza platform? dimensions look similar. i had a matrix xrs before the speed

Good thing you got rear disk brakes with the XR, honestly now Toyota, why the hell put drums on the new Matrix for the base model.

They didn't change up the interior to much, which is good/bad. Notice under the hood, they turned the engine around and the exhaust is facing forward? Lots of room for a turbo.

The corolla XRS is gonna kill the mz3 in sales. Its cheaper and faster. Also looks quite agressive might I add. ITs like 160,160 or something on the XRS. But it lacks Lift technology compared to the old XRS which was the celica gts with 180/130 with LIFT or something like that.

But i still like the 3 more lol. MZ3 FOR LIFE hahaha

you do know the mazda 3 trails only the civic in canada and claim that if they could get more cars on boats and get them here faster that they could be the number 1 small car in canada right?

That was probably Pontiac's contribution to the design. In case you didn't know, Pontiac is all about performance! :chuckle

I really like the new Matrix, but it seems a little smaller than the old one to me. One of the reasons I'd have considered the old Matrix over the MZ3 was the extra room inside.

I still like the design of the 3 more, but the Matrix was more practical. The introduction of the MS3 was what made the call really easy for me.

My biggest disappointment with the new Matrix is the lack of a better engine in the xrs model. The 170 hp or whatever the last one had (I think they originally said 180 but later knocked it down) wasn't a speed demon, but it was definitely better than the average compact. The new one is respectable, but nothing to write home about. I just don't think they've got any better 4-cyl engine to put in it right now.

Overall... I like it. Nice buy!

Thanks for all the comments everyone. With regards to its size, its virtually the same as the previous models, but you guys are correct it is smaller in terms of capacity, just slightly smaller. Where the space is lost is in the hatch, if you look at the rear, it tapers off a little earlier than the gen. 1 Matrix, but is actually 1" longer (I know, not a big deal, just giving facts). I do like the fact that its a four disk breaking system, never understood the drum, absolutely hated it on the old one. Would have loved the Speed3 but wifey didn't want two 3's so this was the next option. The interior has changed, not too much but I think its better than the gen. 1, but then again that's my biased opinion:chuckle

Actually, the new 2009 is longer by 15mm. 4300mm vs 4265mm. Taller by 10mm and narrower by 10mm. And your right, the old gen has more volume total behind the front seats by quite alot.

I wonder how that 2.4 is on gas? Btw, that parking lot looks an awful lot like the Bay by Humber :P Oh, and btw, would you mind if I asked how much you paid for it? You can PM if you don't wanna make it public. My gf may be in the market for one of these soon :P

It's alright on gas, comparable to the my 3, and nice try on the parking lot guess but try again.
