what's the 'safest' tire upgrade for width & profile on our stock rims?
is 225/40/18 too wide for our rim width? i couldn't find a direct answer in the Tires Section for MPS rims.

has anyone here done this?

225/40/18 is fine
i did 235/40/18
for better grip
more tire to the ground

won't 235 'bulge' over our rims though? that's the grossest thing next to lookin down & not being able to see my belt.

225s are fine on the stock rims, 235 you're pushing it. Stock rims are only 7" wide.
There are some folks who are running 235 on the stock on M3F, but... they are Americans eh?

would you do it then? 'much of a difference, comparing our stock rubbers to
225/40/18? i'm only bringin this up as my tires are off the wheels for powdercoating.

Yup, 225's are fine but you should stick with 40 profile.
You can see the comparison with this calculator.

lol.
now my question is... what specs would a rim need to have in order for the stock tires to fit on them properly?

while also fitting the mazdaspeed3?

i sometimes contemplate getting rims instead of powdercoat haha.

With 215s you can do it on 7.5" width wheels. But on 8", it will look retarded imo.

I'm tempted towards the 235's on stock wheels too. After seeing a few pics, it doesnt bulge over the rims like I thought it would.

235/40/18 on MS6 wheels which are also 7" wide

i'm probably blind

edit: nevermind i can see it now

If by grip you mean traction then no
wider tire doesn't give you better grip.
Just provides you with more stability unless its raining or snowing.

Hehe, it's 7.5". It says 18x7.5. 7.5 is the width of the wheel.

if you planed to go down track, kept it on 215 or 225 on stock for save. the stock rubber has amazing handling, they are gone too quick tho.
iam planning to get 235/40/18 on 8in rim with 48 offset

that looks MINT. i'm sure tire shops would oblige in trying both sizes on our wheel if you're buying from there. thanks for the pics!

if anyone's interested in doin up 225/40/18 for their rides in time for spring, let me know. Allen @Simply Tire quoted me $540 for a set of Falken ZE912, mounted & balanced. I'll ask for a discount if we can get a few guys in on this.
