I installed my short shifter today. All I can say is WOW :hawt , this is what should come in the car. What a difference in feel, and love the new height. TWM has a great product and excellent service - I ordered it tuesday night online and it was waiting for me today (Thursday).

I know, but it's winter and my car is a bit of mess. Maybe I'll take some pic tomorrow. IMO well worth the money and time to install. :bana

They have a special going on I think...

Ya I DIY, it took about an hour. It's pretty straight forward, I didn't competely remove the console. The only real pain is getting the spring back on :chuckle.

I remember when I first installed mine, same feeling. I didn't add any grease at the time of installation, but I had to later on. For me at least, seemed like there wasn't enough in the cup to be reused. You'd notice within a couple of days if it feels rough to shift.

There was TONS of grease in the stock shifter that I just re-used. Might be a good idea to open it up since it has been over a year now and see if I should add more. I don't think it needs it though.

Cool I'm a little short on money...so many things I want to get but hopefully the credit card can handle this purchase since there's a special going on!
I may need ur help to install it Matt ;) But I will read through the instructions first. May just need extra hands but we will see when time comes.

Sure man, the install is super straight forward to do. The spring can only be your problem but that's just lack of hands and space. But I can be of assistance no problem.
It'll seem scary but you'll have most of the center console out. I did my short shifter within 24hours of bringing my car home. My neighbour almost lost it when he saw everything out on the ground. haha.

Thanks guys, just never done it before so I can't say it's easy. Will probably order it at the end of month.

Actually, it is a completely different design for the Speed3's. I've never installed one on a Speed3, so I can't say that it is easy or not.

Good point. Didn't think of that, maybe one of the speed3 guys can chime in or discuss in the MPS section.

well it's got that push down for reverse... cause of the 6 speed... should be relatively easy but we will have to wait and see.

I wonder what his price would be....since they are on special right now from the manufacturer? unless he gets a manufacturer mail-in rebate :)

Well guys I did it!
I Installed my TWM Short shifter kit with the new shift boot (black with red trim) after work today. Took me TWO HOURS.
I know some of you have said 30 mins up to 1.5 hours, but it took ME a whole two hours. Its the first REAL mod I installed myself. I don't count the injen intake because a friend helped me who is a machanic.. lol.
Anyways, after ALL of you said that you did it on your own and it wasnt THAT hard, it gave me the confidence to go and actually do it... especially the guy that said "if u can change a tire you can install a short shifter.." I thought screw it if its THAT easy I CAN DO IT!
Well.. turns out it wasnt THAT easy, but if I can do it.. be D@nm sure that so can YOU!
Results... I am using it with the OEM RX8 leather knob, and its AWSOME, very short, deliberate shifts and significantly more fun to drive. I had one in my last car (acura integra type-r) and its been 2 years now.. forgot just how GOOD this mod really is regardless of which car you own.
Anyways, didnt drive it around much but seems to be working and shifting perfectly.
Will update if any changes/problems of any kind come up!
PS- NOW I know what your talking about with that D@NM spring!!!! And those thee prongs you have to poke in... if I had a friend around to help me with those TWO parts would have cut my install time in 1/2 right there easily. I was looking at the device thinking.. what does twm think octopus' install these!? lol..

Yeah that spring is tricky. When I did mine, I didn't have a second pair of hands, so I used the corner of the wall with several screwdrivers. Applied pressure against the wall while using my two free hands. It's hard to describe, but it took me about 10 minutes to do that one part. Got to be creative sometimes. :chuckle

Yea 'creative' indeed!
Drove to work this morning.. its so much lower than stock that i had to take my seat down a pump. lol.
Works great though, so far so good.

Nice... low rider...
A shortshifter is often the most overlooked mod.. and it is so much nicer than you expect.
