If you have had your car broken into, did you have tinted windows?

Nope...*knock on wood*

I've had dark tinted windows on my vehicles for about 8 or 9 years and not a single issue as of yet.

I have no doubt in my mind that tinted windows attract thieves. The car with the tinted windows will probably be more likely to have an aftermarket stereo than an un-tinted car.

I think that car will most likely be broken in, if you have valuables inside the car. Myself for example, my car is always clean and not a single visible item inside the car for many years. Havent got broken in.

But if the car is broken into ,sedan, they can get into your trunk from inside if you haven't locked the fold down seats, so keeping valuables there won't keep thieves away..bottom line keep your back seats locked...

+1 Also a thief may think that someone with tinted windows may be trying to hide something too thereby increasing the possibility of breaking in.

Even if you lock the fold down seats, can't they just use the trunk release considering they are already inside of your car?

The trunk release on the sedan can be disabled from the trunk lid.

Oh.... that's news to me. Thanks. I had a trunk and fuel door lock in my integra and always wondered why there wasn't one in the 3, but now I know, thanks. It was really simple on the integra, there was a keyhole right where the switches were, just lock and unlock when you needed it.

you could also say that if you have something to hide, it may actually stop the thief for wanting to get involved with your car... people talk and it's a small world... alotta my friends who've been robbed(not many) end up finding who did it cause they end up knowing someone who heard about this other guy who did the robbery

either way it's all opinions when it comes to stuff like this

Yeah I do agree with you thats its all opinions. My last car windows were not tinted and it was broken into too many times. Likewise, I know people who's cars are tinted have had their car broken into also...

I'm of the opinion that using a dark tint is a good deterent to brake-ins as the culprits 1, cannot see any goods and 2, take the risk (at night) you still might be sitting in there.

i always tint my windows light - around 30% so that any potential thief can see that there is nothing in the car to steal..

On the sedan the back of the seats have a lock,

also, how do i disable the trunk release?

there is a switch that disables the trunk release on the sedan. it is the yellow switch on the trunk latch mechanism.
Taken from http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=16412&highlight=jerk%2A+gear+manual

Also,

Open the trunk with your key and there is a little yellow tab on the mechanism latch, make sure it is slid down, when it is pushed up the trunk release will not work.

Also, have you tried looking for answers in your driver's manual? I'm pretty sure there are instructions there as well.

I can honestly say it's happened in both cases to me... with my van I had dark tints and the van was broken into...the faceplate on the deck was with me... so they took my smokes, a case of pop and one of my jackets.

In the case of my civic... there were no tints, they stole my type R shift knob and my carbon fibre e-brake handle and they tried to steal my door speakers in the car, but put a hole in one of them since they were rushing.

I think it just depends on the individual trying to rob the car....
