Ok - if this is something really simple, I apologize in advance, but in the 4.5 years I've had my car I have NEVER seen this.

Know how the display above the CD player is divided into 3 sections. The clock on the left, the radio/CD display in the centre, and the right is empty (mine is a 2004, I assume there were options there for other models/cars/etc).

Anyways, went to get my oil changed tonight and when I turned my car back on there was a strange display on the right side where its always been empty.

It looked like this:

AMB
- - -

Any idea what that is? I looked in the manual and online but haven't been able to find any info. Help?

AMB = the outside temperature. They probably updated your car's software so it is showing up now. 2004 models don't have this feature. You can added it somehow (just search if you are interested)

the 3 with climate control has the display for AMB, Temp, fan speed.... on that section.

:-O

Lucky you! Thats the outside temperature! Hopefully its working. Do you have an info button, try cycling through with it!

But I haven't taken my car to a dealership in more than 3 months??? I got my oil changed elsewhere, not Mazda.

and no temeprature is showing up anyways..its just lines?

edit: I just read the one thread that was posted...wtf? how does a random thing just start showing up like that for no reason? Especially when it isn't even available on my car?

Perhaps they cleaned the battery posts? Did they lose your radio stations?

umm..nope, stations still there. They didn't clean anything under the hood, cause I was standing right there (I know the manager of the place I get my oil changed at - he's my ex-bf).

That just doesn't seem right to me....weird.

[QUOTE (I know the manager of the place I get my oil changed at - he's my ex-bf)[/QUOTE]

Maybe its the ex-bf that caused it to appear. :chuckle. Not too sure
as to why this can happen though. Take it to mazda and have it
checked out. It might be a glitch in the software.

it is truly a mystery.

Anyway unless you have the temp nodules in the front of your car this will not work. If you look at the lower section of your front grill (underneath there, looks like diamond pattern grill (noob description)) it looks likke there are 2 probes standing up. that is where the temp gauge is, if i am not mistaken

I had that appear on my 04 Gs a couple of times, It usually came on after a service, but went off a couple days after.

It is weird, I never had that happen on mine, but I would guess it appears after they disconnect the battery? or reset the CPU?

Actually to fix that just disconnect the battery for 30 sec OR take out a fuse of the fuse box in the engine copartment i believe for the radio. I think that should work

Mine is an 04, and I'm pretty sure the Temp gauge didn't happen until the 05's went into production.

I'll try disconnecting the battery and see what happens. It's hasn't gone away at all, so I'm betting it won't unless I do something. And I won't take it to Mazda, cause god knows they'll charge me or something ridiculous (me? bitter? nooooo).
