found my driver side fog light cover cracked probably from a rock. There's water in there....

Is the cover/lens replaceable? I think the bulb is fine. Easy to do myself? I'm not mechanically inclined but i have done a sub/amp install before, grounding kit, air filter, neon light...

I don't really think that lamin-x stuff works all that well. Even if you get a rock at that speed it will still smash. On my last car I went through 3 sets of aftermarket fogs because of rocks!! :(

and also, i found rust dots all over the paint on the fender and doors.

our paint sucks! my 7 year old VW has one rust dot after 7 years! the passat is 15 years old and only has rust on the trunk, rusting from inside out.

Don't worry about that. Just give it a good claybar and it should come off. :)

Those rust dots are most likely rail dust: small metal particles that stick in the surface clearcoat as the vehicle is being shipped. Claybar treatment should get rid of both the spots and the particles causing them.

That's what I'm doing for now, just to prevent further water/moisture/dirt from getting in. Good thing I don't drive much at night now.

Dude you got a passat? That was my first and previous car before this! I had a B3 1992 all done up. common rust place is right on the trunk.. If you need a trunk I can give you a spare one i have in my garage that was intended for the one i had..

It's a B3 1993 Passat VR6. Did you have the 16v?

What colour is your trunk? The rust isn't that bad on mine, just right at the badges its bubbling.
