heard about this a while ago but was not sure how practical it would be in the home.

Can see some good uses so far but for now i think it would be best suited for comercial applications

It's garbage... I played with it at the last CeBIT... pointless.
Basically a glorified table... had some cool features. I even talked to the head os design for it and suggested a few improvements for him.. but the guy was a arrogant prick.

I don't get it. What use does this thing have? So you can move around pictures with your fingers. Big whoop. Looks like garbage like theurgy said.

I know what you mean by "so you can move around pictures with your fingers. Big whoop" - I didn't see much point to that either but it's still pretty cool. Not so innovative since touch/multi-touch already exists (it almost looks like a "super size me" version of iPhone) but the way I see it, even if something is really pointless or impractical, if it advances technology and open doors to new possibilities it's a good thing.

Edit: the odd thing is that Microsoft is some times blamed for holding back technology advancements with their shit O/S.

It's not, once they get the price on the hardware down this will open computing to a whole new group of people. People that have trouble using a traditional interface, older people that are decreased learning abilities, people that can't read etc....

Please....

Someone invent a fridge that can print out a grocery list so when I get back home with my cold cuts, I won't have to go back to the grocery store for some mayo!

Make me something I can use..

I've seen that before, but I've gotta say this is a real good application for it. This will be a great service advantage for ATnT just imagine how many people will walk into a store just to see and use those? Its going to be a wicked advantage. We'll all have those in our homes one day a couple years from now.

This technology was showcased in Business 2.0, and there are quite a few commercial applications for it. For example, at restaurants. The whole table would be a big touch screen. People would be able to view the menu, and select what they want on it. Then for paying, you place your credit card on the table, and drag and drop the items from the bill onto your credit card. There are so many possibilites for this. The A&T store is a good example. Place one of their phones on it, and it shows you all the options / plans for the phone etc. So much more interactive, than reading a manual.
