Hi guys,
I have a feeling that this should work, but was wondering if anyone knows for sure.
I have a 2006 Sport Gt with leather. I am buying a 2008.5 sport GT withOUT leather.
I wonder if it is terribly difficult to swap the seats. I imagine that the rear will be plug & play, but the fronts are heated. I would think that the wiring is the same (hopefully connectors that I can just unplug and plug back in)
Does anyone have any insight on this?
I read that the 2008.5 GT comes with heated cloth seats - is this true? I guess I'll find out when I pick it up tomorrow.
Thanks!

All 2007+ GT come with heated seats, sport cloth or leather. I would be more concerned with the connections/functionality. Also does your 2008.5 come with power driver seat? That is also something I would worry about.

Thanks for the info.
No, I didn't get the luxury package, so no power driver seat.
Ya, i'm interested mostly in the connection & functionality of the heat.
Are there other functions i need to consider?...
oh snap... the airbags? this is probably going to be the deal breaker... don't want to mess with airbags.

The 2008's have airbags in the sides of the front seats. They are were optional on earlier years, so it is likely the connectors are there for them.

Interesting... so if 1 car has heat, airbags & no power adjust and the other has the same, You guys agree that the connectors SHOULD be the same?
Any comment on the risks of swaping them? (with respect to airbags)?

Connectors should be the same. Mazda rarely changes them.. keeps the spare parts inventory in check.
I don't recall any airbag safety precautions in the shop manual for pulling the seats... only removing the airbag itself.

Thanks for the info.
That gives me some hope.
Do you guys think the wife will notice if I take her leather seats out and swap them for my cloth? LOL

I think you would be doing her a favour! Poor thing, sitting on that hot sticky vinyl, er, leather, in the summer, that icky cold and hard vinyl, er, leather, in the winter. Since you are getting a new car, I am sure she would prefer to upgrade to some nice new cloth seats so she gets something new as well :chuckle

Damn... took a closer look and I don't see the little tags for the side airbags on the seats...
Gonna have to find the spec sheet on the 06 GT w/leather....

I'm 90% sure side airbags weren't available in Canada until 07. I remember pricing one out prior and I wouldn't consider purchasing one because they weren't available.

Ok, I guess this is what I should look for:
- '07+ leather seats
- airbags
- heated
- non-power (08.5)
... I guess I will loose the armrest/cup holder though
What year did they start putting those in?
So, if anyone wants to part with their leather before selling or trading in for new car, please let me know... maybe you can get more money trading with me vs. the dealer. :blush

I've pulled my two front seats out multiple times and I've never had a problem with the air bags in them. Just a large plug underneath the seats to take off before taking the seats out. That's it. But then, I have the MS3 seats, so maybe all the power options on other seats would have more plugs.
