Help with intake install?

Hey! Just bought a Fujita intake and was wondering if anyone has experience with the installation as well as free time today to help me out with it.

I don't have tools at home to get it done so thats where the help comes in.

I'm willing to pay for your time.

I'm located in Markham and I drive a 07 GT Hatch.

I called street performance and he won't be available till tomorrow and I have work and next week's schedule I'm still unsure of whats going on.

I'd do it... pretty easy install. Don't need any more tha nvery basic tools.... I am pretty sure you can do it with a screw driver....

I live in Niagara though... pretty far drive to put an intake on.

Don't worry it wont evaporate if you don't get it on within the next 24 hours. :P

Niagara, yeah that is quite a far drive. LOL I know it won't evaporate but I have work all this week and when I get off work, everything is closed.

The weather is nice so I was wondering if maybe someone on the forums is up for the challenge.

If you have the day off, I bet you would be able to install it. Your really not looking at anything commplex AT ALL. And your just taking off plastic parts and connecting your intake parts in there place. Once you get the OEM plastic intake out you have LOTS of room. You run the risk of screwing up or breaking nothing at all, might as weell give it a go.

spend 20$ on a Crappy Tire socket set/ screw driver set and DIY. If you have 200$ for the intake whats another 20......

you may need the tools later on for something else......and they are good to have. Never can have enough tools.....

Its really not that hard.....if you know how to work/use a screw driver and a socket set....you are good to go.

I didn't think it was that hard either, especially since shops and members are asking $30-$50 dollars for the install.

I'm just really mechanically disabled. It seems like every time I try to DIY. I get screwed some how.

Also, on my mazda6 when I took off the front bumper and put it back on, the bumper didn't seem to align properly. I reinstalled it properly but the bumper just didn't seem to line up with the rest of the car. It was a common issue with the 6's not sure with the 3.

So I went to Crappy Tire just now and I did not find any socket sets for $20. My buddy bought a set when it was on sale for $10 but he's not available right now so I can't even borrow his. All I saw was $50 plus socket sets and I didn't know which one I needed so I ended up leaving empty handed.

Installing the CAI at the meet seems like a great idea, but will they allow that in the parking lot?

Do I hear any takers for helping a fellow member out at the meet? :)

Yeah, I picked up my crappy Job Mate socket set for $10 a while back, it does the job. I'll be at the meet on Thursday so if you're there, I'll throw the set in the trunk and I'd be more than willing to help. I just did mine last week. I'm sure there are others who are more knowledgable than I, but I'd be willing to lend a hand where I can.

I searched the mazda3forums and the how-to forum here and I didn't find anything.

I would REALLY like it better if I didn't have to take off the front bumper.

The other methods require taking off the bumper or taking off the driver side wheel and both methods don't sound so appealing and easy for me.

How did you do it mogul?

I pulled off the bumper as it made it easier to access the screws holding the airbox, but the other option like you said is to remove the tire and peel back the wheel well liner and remove it from there. The front bumper isn't hard to remove at all and for the time and agrivation you save from working in such small quarters, I opted for the bumper removal. Let me see if I can dig up some how-tos for you.

Thanks sauga_kid! I saw the how-to in our how-to section and all it has is the AEM intake installation. I personally thought his how-to wasn't very helpful (its probably cuz i'm "DUH" when it comes to mechanical lingo) and he didn't really highlight what he was talking about. All I saw was his instructions and then a picture of the engine bay. :bang

The other one on mazda3forums that I was looking at was the injen install, while he had highlighted what needed to be done, his method required taking off the wheel and I don't have a proper jack to take the wheel off. (He said don't use the jack thats in the car)

Well, another member has already offered to help me out with the install before the meet on thursday. Very generous and helpful of him, but I keep looking at these how tos and my hands start to itch. I want to try doing this myself but I seem to have lost my balls the last time I tried to do something mechanical all by myself. So i'm not sure if I should take the plunge and just do it myself.

Jacked up the side of the car where the air box is... started taking screws off until the stock air box and intake system is gone, Set the lower part with the air filter in by letting out some screws on the wheel well (easy to access jsut turn the wheel and there is lots of room didnt even have to take it off).... then connected rthe other part to the intake manifold and attached sencor... then attached the two parts together and walla.. instake installed. ETA 1/2 hour.

Well, injen install and the fujita one is pretty similar with a few differences here and there but the theory is the same. Bring it to the meet and I'm sure you can find some help there. I've utilized the stock jack before without any problems, not sure why he said not to use it?

It takes like 10 min to take the bumper off and will make the install 10x easier/faster.

Do NOT leave the car up in the air just on the jack if you will be working near the car. Unless you use a jack stand, I would be very careful only using the stock jack...

Agreed, the jack is meant to only put the car up and not to support it, that's what stands are for!

For safety reasons, no I would not. Trust us, the bumper removal is easy and quick. Just bring the CAI and your car and we'll all sort it out at the meet.

go to crappy tire and guy yourself a jack and 2 stands
they're not too expensive, plus you'll always use it
