You guys know of any shops that would do a built auto transmission from lentech?
If you need gears made I'm your man, as for assembly, I'd look to any shop.
www.premier-gears.com (gear manufacturer)
I would recommend contacting Jamie at Houseman Autosport.

what advantages can you get with aftermarket gears?
if it can reduce rotational mass safely by a signficant amount i want them.
mkfc, for your applications it would be majorly benificial. It wouldn't reduce rotational mass because the gears are usually less than 6" in diameter which would have little to no affect because they are idling. They don't rob power. This rotational mass theory works for larger pieces that are more integral in the engine like the flywheel and or pulleys.
For you sir, they would have the benifit of being stronger, meaning less likely to break (wear). Another benifit would be custom gear ratio's thus giving you the RPMs and transmission speeds you want. I would recommend it for your Volvo rear end depending on how strong it is stock.
EDIT:
In the case of moving parts looking to add power, check out finishing. Although the results may be minimal, there are still results. When you're building a race car, or a car thats setup to milk every part of the motor this may be helpful.

Sorry to thread jack, but are you talking about replacing a gear in the transmission to first: reduce weight, Increase durability
Second: Change gear ratio?
How much would this cost? I have always wished that 5th gear was a bit longer. I'd love to be able to cruise at 110kph at 2200RPM instead of the 3200 or so it is now!
Of course, the ROI would probably be horrendous. But i'm curious none the less. I don't care about passing power in 5th - Thats what downshifting is for!
Now on that token, I wonder what the most efficent is. I mean if the engine is lugging going along at 110, it'll suck up more gas than "effortlessly" humming along at 3200.
Whats your thoughts?
It depends on what you want to do, yes it can get pricey.
i emailed one of your sources about axles and gears, thanks for the link :-)

I want 3rd and 4th for power reasons. I am safe right now, but who knows for how long ;)
Let me put it this way, I have direct contact with both websites I posted.
I'm directly related to Premier Machine & Gear Ltd.
I haven't got a response back from the email i sent them. I asked them a question about them fabbing splined shafts, and what materials they can use.. do you know if they actually make splined shafts or am i misunderstanding the section below?
We are capable of providing a variety of gears from print or sample:
Spur Gears
Helical Gears
Worm and Worm Wheels
Herringbone Gears
Internal Gears
Racks (Straight or Helical)
Splined Shafts

3GFX, you talking about MTX or ATX? cause i asked about an automatic transmission.
Both, although I'm not 100% sure if Houseman will assemble ATX. I know he does custom transmission work so its best to just send an email and ask. Its essentially up to him. Although he's located in London Ontario so you might find something closer in the GTA if that's what you're looking for. Shoot him an email to see if he can help you out.
mkfc, yes they do splined shafts. Throw me a PM of what you're looking for and I'll see if I can get you a quote or at least some info.

It's just something im thinking about in case i am able to afford a turbo kit in a few years.
Ahhh, well if you're gonna go that route you could always look into throwing a manual in because your gonna be near that price range anyway :p
But in all seriousness I think any transmission place would be able to piece it together and if need be you can always get the internals strengthened.

just to tap your expertise some more...can you comment on the OEM tranny for the MS3? At what power levels or application do you think strengthening will be warranted?
and then of course the "flat shifting" question...what do you think? will the tranny take it like a man?
I can't really say how strong the trannies are since I don't really have much experience with them. I know the stock Mazda3 trannies are having issues with more than 6lbs of boost and can shred the teeth right off a gear. As for the tranny in the MS3 I'm really not sure, you'd have to talk to the experienced tuners who have put the tranny through its paces. But a general rule of thumb is that if you're going to be strengthening the bottom end of your engine to deal with the power, you'll have to do the same with your tranny.
