Time to replace the air filter.

I'm looking for something better than OEM. I'm looking for alternatives like K&N but not liking the cleaning and oiling process.

Anyone use the AMSoil version? The high efficiency flow air filter that's reusable, just vacuum and go.

Any other options people use?

Of course warranty friendly options.

Or should I just jump on a short ram intake :chuckle

In the meantime I'm gonna be a D.J. and sample MGM:

Here are some old threads with more comments on the K&N filter.

Anyone use the AMSoil version?

Here is what a few members had to say about it:

I just did my first oil change after a 8000km period of using Amsoil Racing Synthetic. Colour was pretty good when it came out, no problems with it during the winter months. Now lets see how summer does.

For what it's worth, a friend of mine with an RSX-S swears by Amsoil.

Missed the mark there. :)

I referred to the AMSoil brand of Air Filter, not oil. I know about the oil and too pricey. I prefer the flavour of Royal Purple.

Better off with the K&N. That Amsoil filter isn't re-usable.

Yes it is! Just vacuum and go. But its only reuseable up to 100,000km vs. K&N's 'lifetime'

Just found out AMSoil doesn't make it for 3's yet.

Maybe K&N then, since I have all the cleaning supplies already...

What's the big deal about cleaning and oiling the K&N filter? I've had K&N filters for years. Just clean it once or twice a year. Big whoop.

Vacuuming a filter can't possibly clean it properly. Seems like like the AMsoil one is a filter choice for lazy people.

Edit:

I guess there's more to it than just vacuuming. Still, I don't see how this will clean it properly.

Cleaning
EaA filters should be cleaned every year or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. Carefully remove the filter from the housing. Clean the housing with a shop towel, being careful not to knock contaminants into the air inlet. Filters can be cleaned by carefully vacuuming the filter media on the dirty side, or by holding the filter with one hand and carefully blowing the filter media at a 45 degree angle on the clean side using low-pressure shop air (15-20 lbs. psi).

I just replaced the one that came with my CAI, with one of the new 'no oil' filters from Mazda...

The one that came out was disgustingly dirty.. and now I hear and feel why I bought it in the first place. :)

When was the last time you cleaned the original filter?

Does mazda have a 'no oil' "performance" air filter?
