What's the catch? I'd be in pending, I'd do a lap or two, just to say I've been on the track.

EDIT: Pending my insurance company doesn't find out somehow :S

each board has about 10-20 people, if we had 20 that would be 60 total plus the normal no shows.

Fobio

I doubt 200 insane ppl would show up to do 5 - 7 laps...lol...but 60 insane ppl sounds about right...do we need "permission" from anyone/other board? I've signed up for the tickets already, waiting on reply.

I would go but I don't want to waste a day for 20 min run. plus you have a bunch of different clubs and would not trust people around my car...I could be wrong but I will go to that track later this year anyways.

the Mosport Grand Prix track is not the track for beginners to go out and push their car without some prior instruction/teaching on the course from someone experienced, or you've lapped around that track before.

with that being said, after reading the thread on the rx7 forum, it is not an open lapping day but a chance to drive on the Grand Prix track with no passing whatsoever... sort of like an "intro to the track". the Grand Prix/ALMS track runs around $200-400 for an open lapping day depending on the group hosting the event, with the BMW Trillium Club having a weekend school at the big track for ~$400...to drive on the big track for free and get some seat time is a steal.

It's not really a lapping day. NO PASSING. It is more of a chance to drive around a track at the speed of the slowest car/driver.

Fobio

yeah...not looking for any hot lap sessions...just something tame to get me and my nephew's blood rushing...

Just wanted to let everyone know that I had a great time lapping with the guys from RX8 and RX7 clubs...I was the only one there from TM3, but I did see (of all colours) another Cosmic Blue at the event parked in the paddocks.

There was about 16 - 18 cars, a couple of MS6's (Al and Ronnie, hope I didn't get that wrong!) and a bunch of RX8's and RX7's. We had the whoel track to oursevles for what seemed like FOREVER! We did I think at least 8 laps around the big track with Al Balisky of Scarboro Mazda and ABRRacing being the pace car.

I was able to take the car up to 150 going uphill after turns 5A and 5B (double right-hander). I was 3rd in line after Al's MS6 and a RX8, and I did my best to not hold anyone up behind me and was able to (somewhat) keep pace with the 2 cars ahead (and leaving quite a gap behind me ;-)...

All in all...it was great fun and the fiancee got to ride along as well! Al is saying he'll try and do it again in the fall, and I strongly recommend others to come out and try it out for yourself! It was a blast! Got to meet turboeight and yellowmp5, and Andrew who's the RX's photographer! Good times!

yes...big gap....
i feel my tires were definitely strugglin' goin' into the turns....
however, i was able to get up to 160ish km/h (cuz of the big gap of coz)\\

btw, did u remeber to put your plates back on? or did u drive all the way
home w/o any plates? alex and i almost forgot to put our plates
back on b4 drivin' off...

Maybe I should have gone. I'll go if there's a next time. I thought 60 cars were expected?

Is the track really small and twisty, or were you guys just going slow? 150-160km/h doesn't sound fast at all for a track to me, but then I have no experience track driving.

Fobio

The track is actually one of the biggest, if not the biggest in Ontario. We used to have F1 races at Mosport I believe back in the 70's...

Anyway, this was my first track experience...I have been to Mosport before as a spectator and 2 friends lost it on turn 2, 1 totaled his prelude and another wrecked his MR2 so I was quite apprehensive to begin with, but quickly took to speed...

We were also following the pacecar...which sets the pace...we were going "50% race pace" is what Al said...obviously, if we were really racing, we'd hit higher top speeds...maybe touch 170 - 180, I dunno...but on a track like Mosport, which is considered a high speed track, going 160 - 180 is still pretty fast...and with the big elevation changes, you really have to set youself (and the car!) up for the turns...

Hey yellowmp5...I did remember to put my plate back on!...lol...I almost left the track without tho...I was expecting Al to give us more space up front too, but had to "crowd control" I guess and wanted to keep us in a group rathar than "groups"...

you sure as hell don't look 30, lol.
As long as you had fun man!

I should go to the big track when my warranty runs out.
Looks exciting!

Off camber turns (which Mosport big track is known for) scare the shit out of me though, lol.
Fobio, how challenging were the off camber turns?

I think driving fast keeps you younger...something to do with general relativity and that whole physics things... ;)

Turn 4 is by far the scariest, I'd say...turn 2 is more about patience and committment cuz it's a double apex, once you're in you gotta stick to your line or you've got grass and a tire wall for lunch...

Turn 4 is a blind steep off-camber left-hand dive and it's delicate...you gotta go in at the right speed cuz it's easy to overcook it and you'll spend more time recovering...

5A and 5B are slow technical blind right handers...I had to aim for this dirt hill to get the right line going into 5A to set up properly for 5B...tires squealing...:bana

All the turns that you don't see pics of is when the fiancee hung on for dear life...:chuckle

helmets aren't always required.
You have to sign a waiver if you don't wear one.
Some track events make helmets mandatory though.
