ya sorry i meant header,
have you been able to make it quieter at all?
how were the gains when you put it on?

The only way to make it quieter = wear earplugs.

what about putting on a cat?

The idea is to have unrestricted pipes for performance, you'll negate the header if you stick on cat's and whatnot. The extra noise is the price you pay for performance.

Yeah, stay away from adding a CAT, but you could add a resonator to the exhaust to make it a little quieter if you want..... It doesn't make it sound like stock though.

Just to add some theory to back up/explain the already valid advice given.
Any free flowing exhaust will be louder. This is because of the simple principal that one of the mechanisms that aid in the propulsion of exhaust gases is to allow pressure waves to carry the exhaust gases out. These pressure waves are more commonly known as that loud horny exhaust sound that we all love to hear. Now if you muffle, absorb or obstruct these waves to make them quieter you have now removed much of the energy that was previously helping carry the exhaust gases through the exhaust. There are a lot more details that go into exhaust design as well like, varying tube lengths for timing wave reflections (also why equal length pipes are good!) but i think ill leave that for another day, time, and a more long winded state of mind.
EDIT: woohoo 500th post!!!

COOL, THANKS FOR THE RESPONSES,
So how was the power gains, by adding a header and exhaust? 10-15hp, or is it more in the range of 5-10hp?
what about putting on a cat?
no cruelty to animals please.
10-15 sounds about right. why worry about noise? no pain no gain!

if your really concerned about noise, add in a resonator.
if you keep the rpms low, and dont accelerate to quickly, it isnt that bad.
but it gets super loud when you step on it.
lol, i should upload a vid... or make one first.

Will a header ruin the warrantee at all??
would you gain a little extra if you added the buddy club condenser as well?
has anyone tried that? or dyno'd that?

I think there is still a debate on the condenser adding power. Either way, you notice smoother acceleration over power. Here's a dyno (http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=44300.0) I found on mazda3 forums, though the site seems to be unresponsive as of now.
As for warranty, everything should be covered minus the exhaust system. I just took mine in to solve a stuttering problem and I got charged $0 :)

What do you have on your car?
and just to clarify, i meant the factory warranty, the factory warranty should be fine?
Who installs condensers? any shop?

Vibrant Header and Cat-Back + injen intake.
As for the warranty, depends on the dealership really. It seems some will be pricks and tell you that any mods done to the car voids the warranty (which is what it says in the fine print if i'm not mistaken). The decent ones won't care as long as the mod isn't the part that caused the problem.
The grounding kits are easy to install, anyone can do it.
