Does anyone (I'm looking at you Bubba) know where I can get 12 point sockets locally?

What sizes? They're available everywhere...princess auto (powerfist), sears (craftsman), canadian tire (mastercraft) would be your best bets for singles and relatively cheap. If you just need it for one specific job drop by sometime, I have 12 points in a bunch of smaller sizes 7-22mm and up to 7/8" in standard. If you need big sizes, TSC has a 3/4" drive set with 12 point sockets on for $60 this weekend.

The Wolf
06-07-2012, 08:11 PM
I had a hard time finding them when I was at Canadian Tire. I don't need a whole set, so I'm hoping to either borrow one, or buy a full set and return it when I'm done :chuckle

I need 8mm for putting my summer wheels back together. If you have that size and are willing to rent it out to me for a weekend, I would be really grateful.

519 is a massive area code territory. There's a KW/Cambridge group and a London and area group. That seems to work pretty well.

Plans for mods?

Well I got my Eibach PK 2 days ago, just need time to put them in.. Then I will be looking for some rims. white emblems, tint tailights.. was thinking of an LED DRL kit, just won't have a highbeam then I'm assuming? which kinda sucks. Doing LED lights all around (signals, brake, reverse, and some inside like dome) I'd like an exhaust system, cold air intake, but the guy at Mazda said I'd probably void my warranty by doing any sort of engine mods? Need more clarification on that though because they probably cost a lot for that kind of work.. Not sure what else though. I have a JBL 700w amp, blew my sub though.. might get a new one ;)

Some actual comments...don't bother with LED DRL, not a good move if you lose your high beams.
Corksport has a full interior LED light kit that's pretty decent.
Exhaust/Intake most dealers don't really care about, Forbes in particular are pretty easy going about mods. Look at the shit in my sig...was at Forbes this week for regular service and was shooting the shit with Chad and he was all pretty positive about it.

Yeah it's actually a decent deal for the price. They fixed my rusting fenders and some dents that I had. They also covered up the license plate holes in the front bumper and fixed a crack that was hidden behind the plate cover. Not the best paint job in the world but it's better than it was for sure.

anyone experienced with aftermarket amps/subs? I installed everything myself recently, and was messing around with the gain/LPF yesterday to try and tune the bass just right...after about 15 mins the amp started getting really hot to the touch and then shut off completely...thought it may have just overheated but it still has no power as of this morning :S. Amp is an alpine pdx 1.1000.

Any ideas? Could the amp have blown without even going into protect mode once? haven't really had a chance to do too much troubleshooting (played around with the ground wires and the remote turn on wire) so haven't checked things like fuses, etc. yet....

I have experience, not in the mazda 3 so much but used to do a ton of installs back in the day. Chances are you just blew a fuse...and also you were probably clipping the hell out of it, most people don't have any clue about gain structure and no appreciation for balanced audio, it's just give me as much boom as possible, sad sad sad.

thing is, i was actually trying to balance it out, not get "as much boom as possible". I enjoy the thump but don't need the bass drowning everything else out. I'll check the fuses first and see how that goes, thanks.

The output from my HU also seems to be a lot lower than rated, as I seem to have to set the gain pretty high to even feel any kick in the front of the car (and that's with 2 13"s)...but i suppose that's a separate issue.

Any links to some good reading on proper gain, LPF, HU equalizer settings? I found a few articles online on ways to adjust gain to the appropriate levels, but none of them were too extensive.

Any links to some good reading on proper gain, LPF, HU equalizer settings? I found a few articles online on ways to adjust gain to the appropriate levels, but none of them were too extensive.

I haven't looked in a long time...so I don't have any links but it's not always just gain issues though when it comes to output, there are other things such as phasing/cancellation or poor enclosure design.

Any recommendations for audio shops in the area? Futureshop is over priced (and I don't trust them to be honest)

A quick search came up with:

anyone have any experience with either of these places by chance?

Point him in the direction, I already talked to Derrek briefly about ordering and saving a few bucks. anyone experienced with aftermarket amps/subs? I installed everything myself recently, and was messing around with the gain/LPF yesterday to try and tune the bass just right...after about 15 mins the amp started getting really hot to the touch and then shut off completely...thought it may have just overheated but it still has no power as of this morning :S. Amp is an alpine pdx 1.1000.

Any ideas? Could the amp have blown without even going into protect mode once? haven't really had a chance to do too much troubleshooting (played around with the ground wires and the remote turn on wire) so haven't checked things like fuses, etc. yet....

1st off what gauge are u running from batt to amp.. pdx 1.1000 needs 0ga wire.. if ur using 4-8ga ur amp will keep overheating and shutting down.. I install all my own audio and can help u for free.. but i live in brantford this is a very common problem that people have 1000+w amps, the amp is trying so hard to get the power it needs out of a skinny wire that it overheats its self

Not exactly. By running a higher gauge (smaller) wire you will only be causing greater voltage drop from the battery to your amplifier. Most car audio amplifiers are pretty basic and don't do a huge amount of voltage regulation so ultimately the amp will produce less power and/or clip sooner. If you are trying to get the same sort of output, then yes it will run hotter because it will try to pull more amperage to make up for the lack of voltage to get the output you want which further lowers the voltage. Ultimately though, 4-8 gauge wire can and will run an 1000 watt amp all day long but not at it's full potential....so as long as you understand the limits it will NOT overheat or shut down.

I totally agree, but for some reason the PDX 1.1000 needs no less then 0ga wire.. Its a common problem with that model, I got a MRD-M1005 (alpine 1000rms prior model) i run it with 4ga, works flawless.. then bought the pdx.. shut down within 2hrs of use.. brought it to fm audio video and the informed me of this.. so Im going off what Ive learned and been told by a installer.. anyway I rewired it with 0ga and works great.. but sold it and went back to my 1005 as i dont run a cap or kin.. and the pdx dims my lights huge.. 1005 doesnt.

Sounds to me like the old MRD-M1005 is a bit more efficient and/or more tolerant to voltage drop. Not too surprising, they probably cheaped out on the new PDX model.

i've had the amp installed for 2 weeks now using 4awg wire and the only time it has shut off on me was the other day when i was playing with the gain trying to tune it (and ultimately blew the inline fuse)...other than that, i haven't had a single problem with the 4awg wire.

Fully understand that it limits the power, just saying i have not had it go into protect/shut down yet.

Save on shipping is the most evident one (we'll split up the costs). We might also be able to get 10% off or something as they've done on previous gb's for TM3.

I'm willing to work with people but don't want to float the entire bill up front as that's a fair bit of $$ outstanding for a month or whatever it takes. Also the final shipping charges + duty and whatnot will be hard to judge until the stuff comes in so that has to be factored in. I'm thinking just a fixed amount per product...so if you're getting $200 worth of stuff, give me $150 up front and the balance + shipping piece when it comes in. Derrick from corksport also has replied to me and said he'd work with us about getting some sort of deal :)

Sure, we'll set the cutoff date for July 8th.

Derrick is looking for a list of what we're getting ahead of time so he can work on the pricing...so can everyone get their thoughts squared away on what they want?

Im about to install my own angel eyes this weekend and would really appreciate any advice.. I know to bake on low heat and to use a heat gun to separate the lens and base.. My main concern is what sealant is best to use to avoid moisture?.. Is it a must to remove bumper?.. I cant seem to find a whole lot of info and the the instructions suck lol.. If anyone can please explain (in steps) how to do properly, I will be so thankful.. Or if your close to Brantford and you can lend a hand, I will throw you some cash for your troubles..
Thanks guys,

Ya so just chillin in the shop about an hour ago by myself.. some lady comes up asks if she can drop off some tires, they're old and she doesn't want them.. Pulls her car in "The tires are on rims thats fine right?" I look at the rims.. they are alloys off a fifth gen. Jetta.. So I asked if she was sure she didn't want the rims "Ya I'm selling the car and the rims suck so I don't want em"

LOL so ya, pretty sweet I just got some free alloys, not in the best shape.. but its just the brushed aluminum face thats not in good shape.. If they were the right bolt pattern I would have just painted that face white and used em LOL

just a random pick found on the internet, of the rims I got lol.

I'm sure we can work something out if need be :) Only reason I posted in the other thread that it was local pickup only is I didn't want the dozens of TO members asking me to make arrangements with them or having to reship almost the entire order back out.

Alright guys, I got the info from Derrick. They are willing to do 10% off and are going to work with me on shipping to get the costs as low as possible. From this I have formulated this spreadsheet to track your actual cost:

http://someforum.net/2012/CorksportGroupBuy.xlsx

Here's a screen cap as it stands right now:
http://someforum.net/2012/CorksportGroupBuy.PNG

************* Please verify your items as I have them listed and ensure all details are correct **************

Currently the shipping actual is just the same as the estimate, this will vary once the stuff comes in and I've gotten the bottom line including customs/brokerage/etc. Some items like the exhausts are too big to ship USPS so it does make it harder to figure it out ahead of time. Like I said, I'll work with them to get you the best shipping cost possible. Each person (as you can see in the formulas) will pay a portion of the actual total shipping based on what the estimate is on Corksports site as of today. I did this per item in the cart individually for those who have more than one item just to ensure consistency.

So with all of that said, I'm ready to go ahead and collect deposits from people. Please see the minimum deposit amount as listed in the spreadsheet. I have figured these amounts to try to be fair to each person but also so I'm not massively out of pocket on this order. I can take deposits via cash, personal cheque or paypal. Your stuff will NOT be ordered if I don't have a deposit, period, no exceptions. Due to the late notice of this though, rather than the monday, we'll do Wednesday July 11th as the cutoff.

Any questions/comments/concerns let me know.

Cheers :)
Ryan

*Edit* I've updated to include 13% HST. I'm not 100% sure when and what this gets applied to. Some stuff that I've shipped USPS hasn't had it from the states, other stuff has. I've erred on the side of caution and included it.

I am taking the hat off my order for sure..$26.80 to ship a hat ? Really ....
Need to think about the LED's...$15.50 to ship each is a lot...

What we need is someone willing to pick the items up in Niagra Falls, NY. We would pay HST, but no duty as items are made in the US. And likely save a boat load on shipping.

Ami - I just used their (corksport's) estimator, which from what we all see here, is grossly high. Everyone is welcome (and encouraged) to verify my numbers. The hope is that shipping it as a whole with actual costs will end up cutting that $576 of shipping down to $200-300. Also, brokerage costs above a certain value don't increase by much, so really they'll amount to at worst with UPS about $80.

Oh...I thought that was an actual shipping estimate from CS.
Please don't ship UPS..there is much more than the $80 fee, see this - http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shipping/cost/zones/customs_clearance.html
Bond Fees would be $72, plus $50 Duty & tax Fee, etc .
USPS is the way to go...

Derrick said the exhausts can't be shipped USPS. I've got a couple questions out to him about how we can deal with that. Hopefully the majority of the order can be shipped USPS.

And yes, its the estimator not an actual estimated quote from corksport. I will ask Derrick for those numbers if possible (might not happen until they pick/pack the order) and will update everything once I know. In the end though, if the balance means you guys get refunded because actual price was less than deposit, then kick ass :)

Do you want to stay in on the hat for now or want me to take it out?

I'm going to guess Derrick can tuck the hat into one of the larger boxes...they can likely do the same with the LED's myself and others ordered. F'k yeah..keep me in for everything . But let's see what we can do.

Worst case if it makes sense to ship UPS, we can use a customs broker I have used before. We will get charged $50 for the work, and then pay HST on the order.

Hey guys,

The shipping on the parts will calculate out at a better price. I looked over the spreadsheet there and the shipping cost comes up at ~$286 for the current list.

Guys, in light of this information I've adjusted the spreadsheet and the deposits required to be more in line with what actual shipping will work out to :)

Hey Derrick...

I wish I had noticed this thread earlier, I just ordered a few things from you guys

Order # 2407035 ... has that been dropped/picked up by USPS yet?

If not is there anyway to tack this into the group buy?

Thanks!
