that car has 6hp more and its 2.4l engine instead, so I would assume thew car is a little quicker and eats way to much gas City: 10.1 L/100 km (28 mpg)
Hwy: 7.4 L/100 km (38 mpg)

it also has more torque and probably weighs a tad less than the hatch.

I've driven my cousin's RA. It's got a bit of pep and a nice, smooth shifter and a friendly clutch. The car weighs as much as the GT sedan despite coming in a smaller package and if I recall correctly, the gearing is noticeably shorter.

However, if "a much better car" to you doesn't take into account styling (both in/out), safety (active and passive), features and overall build quality, you're likely better off getting an old beater Civic and building it up from there. The RA is lacking on all fronts there by more than just one grade.

Oh and yes I think it is marginally quicker than a stock 3 GT in a straight line but it will depend on the driver executing a good launch... and in the end, this is really a fight near the bottom of the barrel.

the 3s are a bit heavier than the lancers. Those 4G engines are quite nice.

no they not. GTs are like 30lbs less than the ralliart. I compared the weight on my door with my buddy's. We are lighter but only around 30lbs

my friend's 05 ralliart is quicker than my hatch, it feels more responsive and quicker off the line. However, as Elder_MMHS stated, the interior of the cars are uncomparable between the 3 and the ralliart. The two cars have different focal points that appeal to people.

Also, my friend with the ralliart tells me he uses a lot more gas than my 3. I don't know the validity of this on a larger scale, but his car does run a lot less km than mine per Litre.

The answer depends on which year of Mazda3 you are referring to. For references, the 2005 RA is 2844 lbs. Pre-07 the 3 is lighter @ 2807 lbs. Revised models are heavier @ 2906 lbs. The reason is probably due to additional standard equipment like side airbags. For consistency, this is all US-spec and off Motortrend and the Mazda USA site.

Regardless, the weight and power output delta is small enough that the driver must make the difference in both tipping the scale and getting off the line. There are other lesser factors that also work in the RA's favour (i.e. slightly shorter gearing in all but first, smaller overall stock wheel diameter) but again, the differences are minor enough and the speeds/times we are talking about are generally slow at the absolute level that it's almost a moot point to further analyze (and somewhat hypocritical of me since I just looked and wrote up all that above). :)

Who cares about Mazda3 gt VS mitsu Ralliart. Ralliart`s suspension is alot stiffer than the Mazda3 gt stock for stock. Less cramp interior too. Mitsu Ralliart came out with side air bags in 2005, my mazda3 gt didnt get it. Try looking at the rear off both cars , ralliarts light are brighter than the 3 starting in 2004.. I know I have one... Try comparing the new ralliart coming out this late summer with awd, and turbo against mazdaspeed 3.
