So on my way back from Florida, my Brother and I stopped at a small 11 mile stretch of road known as the Tail of the Dragon. This 11 mile stretch contains 318 turns, some being really tight hairpin turns. http://www.tailofthedragon.com

Here are some pics of us going, at and leaving the Tail. Thought I'd share...
More photos are available at my personal website (http://web.mac.com/wonglawrence/iLaws_Digital_Home/Photo_Albums/Pages/Tail_of_the_Dragon_2008.html).

the Black RSX is my brother's car... the Blue one is his friend.

The black's wing is a JDM Type R wing, the blues wing is a carbon fibre wing, can't remember the brand.... don't let the looks fool you, those are fast. My brother's is a 12 second car, his friend 11. The blue one has a JDM Type R motor in it.

The other car is a Civic Si Sedan with a Mugen Exhaust

the off colour blue on the RSX and the green on the Si is painters tape; for the drive up, protects against bugs and stonechips.

If you can see, the blue RSX has a camera mount on his back window. Once I get a hold of the video, I'll post it on YouTube.

How many state patrol did you count on the dragon? or even just along Deal's Gap?
30mph musta been aggravating.

Just a question, so the two RSX had painters tape on their front bumper and hoods. Your 3 didn't. Was there a reason why you didn't do it too? Did it make a difference between the four cars? I'm planning to go on a long drive too and was wondering if it was worth the trouble.

Lucky you! I've read much about the Tail of the Dragon and it sounds fun, minus the increase in Law Enforcement Officers.

As for protecting the front, it will make a difference. Did a road trip once from BC to Alberta last year (3000km total) in my old 3 and the front bumper was textured and had a variety of rock chips I had to touch-up. I don't know if the painter's tape is enough, but it's probably better than nothing until you peel it off.

I'm personally too superficial to do it. Don't want my car in vacation/road trip pictures to look like that. :)

You average about 30 MPH through the really tight areas, I never really went faster than 45 MPH.

There wasn't actually that many STATE patrols. There were a couple county sheriffs, but they had their hands full with accidents. I only saw one state trooper on the entire trip.

There was a biker that slid off of the road and almost fell over the cliff, and there was a two 350Z's that collided on a hairpin (one nudged the back of the other, put them both into a spin).

Well my 3 has the clear Lumar Bra on the hood and mirrors. My front bumper was unprotected. It's already got stonechips and such. As for rocks, the painter's tape protected against minor dirt/pebbles, but it was mostly to keep the bugs off. In florida, you have to worry about bugs more than stones.

Ya they can be pricks, but if you just keep it quiet (don't floor it on straightaways) and slow down when they see you, they are OK. We never had problems, and the Blue RSX is LOUD. I couldn't follow him because my ears would hurt.
