Hi there, just got my 3, and I noticed this occuring the day after I got the car, when idling, there is a ticking noise, I am not sure if it is just the car breaking in or what, wondering if I should go into the dealer or do you think it's just normal for a new car? Everything else is fine, I don't notice anything else with acceleration etc.

Thanks

Take it in if it will make you sleep better at night... doesn't hurt to.

I took mine in and asked about it (used to bug me) but now I am used to it... every time I ask they say it is normal. I still think it is a little loud to be normal but a lot of us have it.

I've had it for as long as I've owned the car. Its coming from the passenger side of the engine bay is its really loud when the car is wet (rain/snow).

Dealership said it was normal as well.

ITS NOT NORMAL... intake shutter/tumbler valve (do a search)

Thanks for all the info guys, ya the sound makes me feel like I have a diesel engine instead lol. It's not super loud, however i can hear it at idle when the car is in gear not parked and if the radio is off. I'll probably take it in just to be sure because if it is the intake shutter/tumbler valve, do you think that it would need replacing after only 300km? Or is that only if you have a lot of mileage.....?

Its a plastic POS valve moulded within the plastic manifold. If it is infact a dud the whole intake manifold is replaced.

I got mine REAL early. I found out what it was a few weeks ago.
I'm going to get them to fix it on my next service

So Fuman, I assume that yours is the intake shutter valve as well? Also if the dealership I go to does not recognize that it is a problem, can you recommend a dealer that will recgonize the problem and perform the warranty work. I'm just really surprised that it would break down so early in the owner ship of the car. I should make it out to a meet to let you guys listen to it as well to see if it's the same thing you are experiencing.

I know exactly what you guys are talking about, I have it too, and only 9000km but i noticed it a while back

I took my car in to get that checked out with 1300KM on it (my car now has 9600KM). The ticking is really loud on idle, don't really hear it when driving. I'm gonna have them check it out again at my next oil change.

For those that have had the issue and had it fixed are there any other symptoms besides the ticking that we should keep an eye/ear out for?

I'm going to be going to MOT or Waterloo Mazda.
I am assuming that mine is intake shutter valve.
It is NOT the purge valve, although I had that replaced.

The purge valve won't make that kind of ticking... best way to describe it is a modern diesel engine sort of sound

Any news on this? Are there any Mazda dealers change the intake manifold and cover under warranty?

I want to go get mine fixed at MOT, but I can see it already, them saying that everything is normal and having to argue with them. Last two times I went there for service 8k and 16k I wasnt impressed at all.

I had the ticking noise too on my 2.3 and they said it is normal. I notice that it does not tick on idle until I have driven it. If I were to start it up in the morning, I would not hear it. Strange...

there is no fix because they will all deny the problem and i quote this " u are hearing this". if u guys would like we can all go to a mazda dealer toghter about this issue and all protest that there is a problem and it needs a real fix not a cover up such as insulation which does nothing, anybody interested pm me, i suggest at least 5 of us go, there was an issue with the 2006-current civic si 3rd gear pop out, nothing was done about this issue for years untill a couple people went toghter to a dealer and they all got there tranny overhauled, not the same thing but iam jus makin a point

let me go in on tuesday and see what happens before we do anything, if the fix is real then i will let u know as soon as i get the car back neighter way, then we can move ahead from there and set up some where to meet at a dealer, i'll type up a lenghtly letter and send it to the dealer stating everyones name, vin, model, year and then we can go and demand a fix. they have to do something about it if many people go... and btw just to keep u guys updated when i filed a claim against my dealer mazda of canada called me back and told me that they had a solution to the ticking of the engine... we will see on tuesday,

cheers

*Update for anyone experiencing the back noise*
Just got a call few minuites ago about the creaking at the back of the car, the service manager informed me that they had droven the car as far as misisuga srry for spellin, and had found nothing wrong anywhere in the car, he informed me that he had driven the car for 58Km's with a tech from mazda of canada and 3 other people and no body could find what was wrong with the car , in their words they checked everything and nothing was found wrong or lose, he informed me the car had a 5 year warranty and if the problem got worse to bring it back again and they would give me another rental to see if they could find the problem, most likely iam gonna be going back there again , i aint giving up ne time soon, about the engine ticking issue they said they had fixed this with a part , i cant confirm on deny this as i have not picked up the car, i will pick up the car 2moro and will make a seperate new thread about that stating if the fix was real or not, which i doubt again

these mech's must be deaf from all the noises they hear in the shop or we are pretty much too sensitive about our 3's =) I get a ticking noise too as if a woodpecker was pecking on a tree or something. 2 dealerships even on this ticking noise as well and both did not find anything and said my engine mounts / suspension? was normal.

mazdas3sporte

it has nothing to do with engine mounts and suspension, where they dont know where the problem is coming from they pull answers out of their ass.

Have they resolved your issue yet? Are you not pissed off they wasted 53kms of YOUR ride?
