View Full Version : Smoking my tail lights.
I checked, but there's no " How to" thread on doing them, I only know one member on the board, who actually smoked his tails, I forgot his username, but he drives a white sedan. Is it hard doing so?
If not, could someone or the member who actually did smoke his tail lights, pm me, and tell me how they did so.
Thanks.

What more do you need? Take the tails off, spray (couple light coats every 10 mins, like the post says), let dry, and then add clear coat...

Hmm let's see.. 3/4 of my tails, are clear ( I already smoked them) but for some odd reason, my right turn signal, turned out dull.

what do you want to know how to do? take your tail lights out. clean them with a degreaser. then clean them with water. then do light coats until you get the darkness you want. if you want to leave out certain areas for reverse lights or whatever (which i think wouldlook weird if you did) you can just put painters tape over it, or if you know someone with a plotter get some vinyl or mask to cover up the sections you dont want painted
I know how to smoke them.

Then what exactly are you asking? Am I the only one who's confused?

lol i am confused as well.
as far as the dullness goes. tinting your tail lights gets rid of ANY shine the plastic once had. the tint spray is a matte spray finish, so your taillights will be much duller than before.

Wouldn't putting some clearcoat fix this?
Now see what happened was, once I noticed the dullness of the paint, it didn't seem shiny, clear as the other ones were, hence the 3/4 tails that were done. But I did wet sanding, and accidently used the wrong grid number. So now the righter tail light looks misty, and all blurry.
People have told me to try buffing it out because it will do the job. The paint looks scratched, not the lens.

to remove what you have done, apply gasoline gently, and go faster and faster, it should take it away.If it don't work and makes it worse, then your screwed. I think you over "smoked" them in my opinion. One of them looks greats, but the other one looks baked. "Baked Mazda 3 Tailight."

oh wow i see what you mean now. did you only wet sand the one that looks foggy? because when i tinted my tails i never sanded AFTER paint. so maybe that could be the problem there....

thats very weird. maybe your lens wasnt clean before painting? i dont even know. i would assume the foggyness is due to you sanding it. because any type of sanding will remove any gloss that the paint had, even though it doesnt have much to begin with. but, i would suggest looking for a way to remove the tint, and try again. not sure what will remove it, probably degreaser, or maybe paint thinner. try one of those two
I made sure it was clean, Now I'm just wondering, what kind of paint removal, actually takes this crap out, and I mean, HARD CORE paint removal.

Gasoline is like Varsoll, it will remove anything as long as you keep wiping it away.ITs a stronger base.!!

You're better off buffing and polishing that down.. Just give me the word and it will take 1 second to ask my buddy for the buffer.
