L/100 km to MPG conversion?

Sorry if this is going to sound pretty dumb, but I've been looking for a conversion calculator from our L/100 km to US MPG. Last week I went 399.5 km and used 32.726 L. I've googled this and came up with a few different equations. One way I'm getting 28.78 MPG, another 30.04 MPG. Just trying to get an accurate idea of how my mileage is doing compared to others on this forum so if you could let me know which MPG figure is right, I'd be very grateful! Thank you in advance....

FYI, the Energuide listed mileage for a 2004 Mazda3 automatic is 29 MPG City, 38 MPG Hwy. Looks like I'm bang on since I consistently get 28.8 MPG and got on a trip to Barrie down HYW 69 32.3 MPG. My low fuel light comes on around 540 km and I've found (at fuel-up) that I still have 10 Litres left at that point. So, guess I'm doing pretty good for mileage after all!

Wow, that was fast! Yes, that is one of the sites I went to that said my mileage would be 28.77 US MPG....

Yeah, that's why I was confused. That equation doesn't jive with what others on this forum seem to use....

By my calculation it should be 28.71 MPG (US).

Using British gallons, which Canadian companies like to use on their window stickers to inflate their numbers in comparison to readily available US figures, it would be 34.48 MPG.

Incidentally, my calculation is this: (km*0.62137)/(L*0.2642)

I figured that was the issue...using the British values vs. the Canadian/US values. I think that the 28.78 MPG value (give or take a tad) is accurate....

...in which case I calculate exactly 28.772492 MPG. Great! Thanks for your input.

Easier way is to take km/L * 2.3521458 which = 28.775591 for 39.767 L over 486.5 km. Either way, rounded to the 10th, I get 28.8 MPG which I think is pretty good.

I get 22-24mpg in the city, 28-30mpg highway. Is that decent enough for an MS3?

Yes, I just found that website late yesterday and it's the best! Just plug in your km travelled, the Litres to fill-up, and it gives both the Canadian and US values.....

As for mileage, alot of factors come into play such as: car maintenance (I'm in every 4 months at my dealership, use Mobil1 5W/20 synthetic oil), tires/pressure (still using the stock tires, but have a dedicated winter set, check pressure all the time to keep at 32 psi), how much city vs. hwy driving you do (I'm about at 25% city, 75% hwy), HOW you drive (I try to accelerate/decelerate slowly, use cruise as much as possible, stick to 15 km over the limit), etc., etc. The Canadian Energuide site lists the automatic 2004 Mazda3 mileage as 29 MPG city, 38 MPG hwy....

LMAO, I like the "stick to 15km over the speed limit" ...atleast your honest :chuckle

I think getting 34.2 mpg is pretty damn good for an auto!...best I ever did was 36mpg and that was with Royal Purple 5W-20 oil in the pan and I have a 5 speed and a couple of engine specific mods which should improve my mileage.

Well, ok, with my CRUISE on, I stick to 15km/hr over the limit. That's why I try to use it as much as possible since we all know how our cars like to Zoom-Zoom.... Also note that I live in Sudbury. I drive in the slow lane at that speed and get whized by constantly. Not much in the way of police inforcement around here.

Yeah I guess there's not too many PIGs up there, but you gotta watch out for other wildlife; coons, deer, moose :chuckle
